{allcanada} Rehab working for Estella Warren

It was looking like a cliched bad Hollywood ending might have been in store for the lovely Estella Warren.

Gorgeous Canadian girl hits Hollywood, becomes a major star, and suddenly is only in the news for drunk driving arrests.

But there may be a happy twist that's come out of Warren's recent woes.

When Warren first got here -- a 20-year-old, fresh-faced athlete and model who had been crowned Maxim's Hottest Woman in 2000 -- the powers that be scooped her up.

One of her first acting gigs was in the $100-million blockbuster, Planet of the Apes, starring Mark Wahlberg.

And let's not forget her hit movie Kangaroo Jack that came out in 2002 or those Victoria Secret underwear commercials.

Seemingly as quickly as they began, the movies and endorsements began drying up after her drunk driving arrest in 2007.

Reportedly, Warren was in such financial trouble last year that she had to rent out her Beverly Hills house and live elsewhere.

It got much worse for Warren on May 24 when the intoxicated star hit three parked cars with her Prius and fled the scene. When cops arrested her and put her in the back of their cruiser, she allegedly kicked one of them.

At the station, she slipped off her handcuffs and tried to escape.

Were boyfriend troubles adding to Warren's woes? She hadn't been seen with serious beau Eugene Barash since the spring.

Regardless, Warren was sentenced to six months in supervised rehab.

Unlike Lindsay Lohan, or other infamous stars known for repeated relapses, the 32-year-old Warren honestly seems to have been scared straight.

"I'm not drinking," Warren adamantly said the evening of Nov. 10 during a local party for Nylon magazine. She had been offered a glass of champagne from a server circulating the party.

"I'm not wasting my time with that any more."

Her attorney, Darren Kavinoky, was also upbeat in an interview with local media.

"She's doing fantastic," he said. "Her attitude has been stellar."

By the way, Warren's acting career is looking up.

After the low-budget movies she performed in during the past few years, including See You in September and a direct-to-DVD weird version of The Beauty and The Beast, she's now making Manson Girls.

It's the story of serial killer Charles Manson's female followers starring Taryn Manning. Warren plays Catherine (Gypsy) Share.

Once filming wraps, she must start learning her lines for No Way Out, a spy movie directed by Ray Loriga in which Warren is the star.

Every girl is entitled to a slip up. Warren is still young and beautiful.

And Hollywood loves a comeback story.

PLUMMER 'LIKE GOD': It was an oddly familiar voice coming from my son's new Xbox Live game, Skyrim.

"Who's that speaking?" I asked my 14 year old.

"Christopher Plummer," he said.

Wow, weird.

Why would a 14-year-old know who the 81-year-old Canadian actor is?

"Because he's so awesome."

Plummer's computer-generated image is cloaked as Arngeir, the Greybeard elder in the new video game. His sage voice tells players how to slay the dragons.

"He's like God. But his name's on the credits," my son said.
