SAULT STE. MARIE, Ont. - Brier champion Jeff Stoughton defeated John Epping of Toronto 6-3 on Friday to remain unbeaten at the GP Car and Home World Cup of Curling event.
The Winnipeg skip scored three in the second end en route to his fourth straight victory. Epping fell to 2-2 with the loss.
2006 Olympic champion Brad Gushue of St. John's and Edmonton's Randy Ferbey were tied at 3-1 after posting victories. Gushue beat Robert Schendler of Edmonton 6-4 while Ferbey topped Niklas Edin of Sweden 9-6.
Rob Fowler of Brandon, Man., and Greg Balsdon of Kingston, Ont., were tied for fourth place at 2-2. Fowler edged Steve Laycock of Saskatoon 6-5 and Balsdon posted an 8-3 win over Dale Matchett of Bradford, Ont.
Laycock and Edin have 1-2 records while Schlender and Matchett fell to 0-3.
The event, which runs through Sunday, is the first leg of the Capital One Grand Slam of Curling series.
