Re: [SurroundSound] Re: PS3 SACD rips

I'm not sure exactly what you are asking, but I will say that 90% of what is out there labelled as PS3 SACD rips are in fact ripped as described by known releasers.  There is a guy on rutracker posting assembled ISOs from Pioneer ripped (special mod)  DFF files, but aside from the ISO not being a true archive of the original, the audio should be identical.  Even so, we are pushing for better labeling.  Yes... an I Robot upmix has been posted as SACD ISO, but that was clearly labelled as an upmix.  Again... labelling is key.  Also,  a well known pioneer of surround sharing has resurfaced and is transferring other sources to SACD.  Again... labelled.

Sure one could try to pass off a fake (but I don't think it would last long).  However, these are legit and the quality is there.  Not sure about your distortion issue.

There's so much of interest here, but most of it is very technical,
and a lot of followers will be showing a lot of 'faith' in the
work.

Taking a step back though;  Has anyone done much in the way of audio
comparisons - source to converted quality?   Aside from the technical
differences I like flac as I play mine on a network media player;  I
could use the PC but that's not the way forward and has no commercial
future IMHO.

I'm not trying to rock the boat but unless the quality is there from
the start it has little meaning to me and others.  No point in hi-res
noise, jitter, artefacts etc, and we're all aware of a few on
different recordings.  For instance I downloaded the a Dave Brubeck
album jus to see what it sounded like; stereo seemed fine; 2 of the
multichannel were very distorted and I deleted the lot.

How can we tell we're downloading a good rip and a genuine sacd?  Not
from you guys, but cowboys and kidders will stsart to jump on this
bandwagon for a giggle.  We'll see upmixes, flac conversions of normal
CDs to higher bitrates.  A bit like hi-res vinyl rips, or hi-res quad
tapes that are clearly past their best.....    they've no interest to
me.

What I'm asking is if there's any danger we are all fooled by some
joker uploading upmixes, or hi-res rips of a normal CD?  Apart from
having the real sacd I'm not 100% I've got more than 'faith' to rely
on (apart from corrupt/distorted work thats no use anyway.  Just a
thought.
