The threat of an approaching hurricane couldn't deter the people of Cornwall, P.E.I., from welcoming home Adam McQuaid with the Stanley Cup.
Thousands lined the streets of the tiny community near Charlottetown today for a parade for McQuaid, a defenceman for the Cup-winning Boston Bruins.
Carrying the Cup and wearing a Bruins sweater, McQuaid and members of his family boarded a large amphibious vehicle for a parade through Cornwall.
Fire trucks carrying minor hockey players accompanied the McQuaid vehicle along the parade route.
Many fans waited until the last minute to check out the weather before heading for the parade.
A wind warning has been issued for later today for all of Prince Edward Island by Environment Canada as hurricane Irene approaches the Maritimes as a tropical storm.
