FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- Stefan Frei was solid in goal as Toronto FC and the New England Revolution battled to a scoreless tie Wednesday night.
New England (3-7-5) ran its winless streak to five matches (0-4-1), while Toronto (2-5-9) extended its own winless slump to seven (0-2-5).
The Revolution had 11 corner kicks but could not put a shot past Frei, who made two good saves on midfielder Shalrie Joseph in the 50th and 60th minutes.
Joseph also sent a blast over the cross bar in the first minute of stoppage time.
"I think, as a whole team, we have to stay positive and look at the fact that we worked fairly decent," said Frei. "Of those seven shots I think there were maybe one or two that were threatening. Other than that it was pretty routine, so that's a very positive thing for the team to look at as a team defensively."
Toronto couldn't solve Revs keeper Matt Reis, who watched Alan Gordon's header off of a Nathan Sturgis corner kick in the 85th minute sail wide left of the post.
"A point away but it's otherwise good," said Toronto head coach Aron Winter. "We wanted more ... but also we had a lot of chances and we're better for it. A couple times they had some good opportunities but still one point is good.
"The result is good but I'm waiting for a victory because every time to play a tie, it's good but it's not changing anything in the standings."
New England, which has the fewest goals (11) in MLS this season, had two legitimate scoring chances in the first half -- a header by Rajko Lekic in the third minute and Chris Tierney's long drive from outside the penalty box in the 20th.
