{allcanada} LULAY, LIONS SHUT OUT STAMPEDERS IN PRE-SEASON PLAY

CALGARY -- Steven Black, Kamau Peterson and Nick Moore caught touchdown passes as the B.C. Lions beat the Calgary Stampeders 24-0 in CFL pre-season action Wednesday night.

Paul McCallum added a field goal for the Lions (1-0).

One of the only bright spots during the contest for the Stampeders (0-1) was the play of cornerback Demetrice Morley, who picked off a pair of passes in the first half and nearly had a third interception in the third quarter.

B.C. starting quarterback Travis Lulay tossed a 16-yard touchdown pass to Black at 11:43 of the first quarter to cap off a five-play, 65-yard drive.

McCallum then put the Lions up 10-0 just 39 seconds into the second quarter when he kicked a 22-yard field goal.

Calgary kicker Rob Maver missed a pair of 48-yard field goals in the first half.

Lulay, who completed eight-of-13 passes for 114 yards, gave way to Jarious Jackson in the second quarter, but the backup quarterback couldn't get much going.

The Lions then took advantage of a pair of turnovers by Calgary to build up a 24-0 lead in the third quarter.

After Stamps' centre Zac Carlson botched a snap to quarterback Drew Tate, the Lions recovered the ball and took over with great field position at the Calgary 10-yard line. Jackson then promptly tossed a 10-yard strike to Peterson in the end zone at 1:56 of the third quarter.

Seven minutes later, third-string B.C. quarterback Mike Reilly threw a 15-yard TD pass to Moore to capitalize on another fumble by Carlson just seven plays earlier.

Starting Calgary quarterback Henry Burris had a disappointing outing as he completed just three-of-eight passes for 17 yards in the opening quarter.

Notes: The announced crowd of 8,235 fans braved cold and rainy conditions to take in the game. ... The Lions will return home to host the Saskatchewan Roughriders in their second and final pre-season game on June 22, while the Stamps will travel to Edmonton to face the Eskimos to round out their exhibition schedule on June 24.
