The Mask (1994)

Maybe it is because Max, the energetic Jack Russell terrier who as Milo undergoes the same cartoonish transformation as Carrey when he dons the magical mask, almost upstaged the star. But the actor doesn't say much about his canine companion who helped popularize the breed along with Eddie of TV's Frasier. "Yeah, he stole my wallet." Not really. "I don't remember a thing."

Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls (1995)

Few stunts have drawn as many gasps and guffaws as when Ace, stuck in a robotic rhino, squeezes out of the fake animal's butt. "People still tell me that is the wildest thing they have ever seen in a movie," Carrey says. "I was buck naked and covered in lubricant. It was done over several odd and difficult days on the set."

Me, Myself & Irene (2000)

The story of a sweet-natured cop with a manic alter ego takes an outrageous detour when Carrey encounters an injured cow in the road. He shoots it to put it out of its misery. But more extreme measures are called for, including plugging its nostrils, when the bovine refuses to die. "It was a ridiculous scene — just incredibly silly and one of a kind."

Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000)

Encased in dyed yak hair, Carrey as the green meanie spent much of his time shouting his lines at the mixed-breed dog who played the put-upon Max (along with five stand-ins). "I was barking at him all the time in a loud voice, and he had to get used to that level of noise. But he was super-cool."

Bruce Almighty (2003)

Probably the most famous of Carrey's animal high jinks is when he uses his God-like powers to cause a capuchin monkey to fly out of a street bully's behind. But the actor seems fonder of the black-and-white pound dog named Buster who played Sam, the toilet-using pooch. "He was brilliant but not deeply trained," he says. "He was just starting out and was able to get his SAG card."
