The Boston Bruins are Stanley Cup champions.

Patrice Bergeron and Brad Marchand each scored twice and Tim Thomas picked up his second shutout of the series to lead the Bruins to a 4-0 victory over the host Vancouver Canucks on Wednesday night.

It was Boston's sixth cup and first in 39 years since the fabled club of Bobby Orr and Phil Esposito beat the New York Rangers.

Vancouver had been hoping for its first-ever cup in the 40 year franchise history. But the club only scored eight goals in the seven games.

Bergeron's second goal of the game gave the Bruins a huge 3-0 lead late in the second period.

The short handed marker came after a race down the ice by Bergeron and two Canucks' defenders. He was tripped off his feet and somehow got the butt of his stick on the puck as he went by goaltender Roberto Luongo with a Canuck on top of him.

A wrap-around goal by Brad Marchand put the Bruins into a 2-0 lead earlier in the second.

Marchand, who had 10 goals in the post-season, picked up the puck to the left of Luongo, circled the back of the net and beat the goalie to the other side to poke the puck in.

Bergeron had given the Bruins a 1-0 lead in the first period.

Boston won a faceoff in the Vancouver zone and a pass from the boards into a scrum in front of goaltender Luongo landed on Bergeron's stick. He fired it high off the left post and into the net at 14:37.

It was Bergeron's first marker in seven games.
