OWEN SOUND, Ont. -- Matt Petgrave scored his first career hat trick to help lead the Owen Sound Attack to the Ontario Hockey League final after disposing of the two-time defending Memorial Cup champion Windsor Spitfires 10-4 on Wednesday night.
The Attack will play the Eastern Conference champion Mississauga St. Michaels Majors.
Matt Halmo and Andrew Shaw scored twice for Owen Sound, while Joey Hishon, Garrett Wilson and Jarrod Maidens also counted.
Brady Vail scored a hat trick of his own for Windsor, while Alex Khokhlachev got the other goal.
Owen Sound fell behind early, as Khokhlachev scored his ninth of the post-season, stuffing a loose puck past Attack goalie Scott Stajcer.
The Attack responded just over three minutes later, as Petgrave scored his first of the playoffs on a shot from just inside the blue line, beating a screened Jack Campbell.
Windsor re-took the lead at the 9:38 mark of the first period, as defenceman Ryan Ellis made a great pass to Vail, who beat Stajcer.
The see-saw battle continued a few minutes later, as Hishon blew by the Windsor defenders, cut in front and slid one by the outstretched pad of Campbell, tying the game 2-2.
After what was a tight checking second period, Petgrave scored twice in the last 5:20 to complete the hat-trick.
The flood gates opened in the third, as the Attack put six past a clearly beaten up Campbell.
Campbell stopped 24 shots to take the loss, while Stajcer made 34 for the win.
Game one between the Attack and Majors will either be Tuesday or Thursday night in Mississauga. The schedule will be released tomorrow.
Notes...With the win, the Attack also punched their ticket to the Mastercard Memorial Cup. Mississauga earned an automatic berth as they are the host team for this year's event.
