multichannel if it's encoded as Dolby Digital or DTS.
If you are stuck with SPDIF then you need to reencode to AC3/DTS (some
chipsets can do this on the fly, and if you can't then do it offline)
but then it's lossy and not as good as the source. Much preferable to
do it via analog or HDMI.
