One of the young pieces on the Stampeders offensive line that helped block for the league's best rushing attack and the second-best passing game will be back.
Calgary announced that non-import offensive lineman Steve Myddelton has signed a contract extension with the club. Terms were not disclosed. The Barrie, Ont., product was a fourth round draft pick of the Stampeders in 2009.
"Steve had a tremendous season for us last year and we are very happy to sign him to this extension," head coach and general manager John Hufnagel said in a statement. "He has made great progress since we drafted him in 2009 and we look forward to his continued development in the coming years."
Myddelton played every game for a Stampeders team that made it to the West Final last season but eventually lost at home to the Saskatchewan Roughriders.
The 24-year-old proved to be a versatile piece on the line, starting at both guard positions at various points in the season. He helped the Stamps lead the league in rushing yards per game (145.4) and rushing first downs (162), while giving up 30 sacks, the second lowest total in the league.
"I'm thrilled to extend with the team," Myddelton said in a statement. "We have some of the best coaches in the league and I'm fortunate to have the opportunity to continue learning and working with them going forward. With the season I was able to have last year, I'm really looking forward to getting back at it and continuing to progress and get better."
