It's one thing that the new Canadian TV series She's The Mayor, which debuts Friday on VisionTV, has a similar title to existing CTV series Dan For Mayor. But more than that, they're basically the same show.
Dan For Mayor: Local doofus becomes mayor through unusual circumstances.
She's The Mayor: Local senior becomes mayor through unusual circumstances.
Both the "she" in She's The Mayor (Iris, played by Janet-Laine Green) and the "Dan" in Dan For Mayor (played by Fred Ewanuick) must overcome their own insecurities and face a phalanx of arrogant rivals, condescending civil servants and incompetent supporters.
Dan For Mayor, which presumably will be returning for its second season sometime this spring, is the funnier of the two shows. But Green is not without her charm and spunk on She's The Mayor.
Still, so few Canadian scripted TV shows even make it to air. What are the freakin' odds that a couple of them would be this thematically similar?
Dear God, it's like having two out of nine CFL teams named the Rough Riders again.
