CALGARY -- Canadian ski cross racer Julia Murray will miss the rest of the World Cup season after tearing a knee ligament at last month's Winter X Games.
Murray, of Whistler, B.C., hurt her left knee when she landed a jump at the event. After a week's rest, she got back on her skis and battled through the pain to win the silver medal at the world championships in Deer Valley, Utah.
However, further tests this week revealed Murray suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament and will undergo surgery in the coming weeks, Alpine Canada said in a release.
"I thought it was just going to be a little cleanup but it was more serious," Murray said Friday. "It's hard to believe."
The 22-year-old suffered a partial ACL tear in the same knee in January 2010 but still competed at the Winter Olympics, finishing 12th.
"She has torn her previously reconstructed ACL and sustained cartilage damage," said Dr. Stephen French, medical co-director of Alpine Canada. "She is keen to start the rehabilitation process."
