Being in Canada is anything but a labour of love for Jack and Avery this week on 30 Rock.
In a new episode titled Double Edged Sword airing Thursday on NBC and Citytv, Jack (Alec Baldwin) and Avery (Elizabeth Banks) travel to Canada for a final romantic getaway before they become parents.
However, when Avery goes into labour, the frantic couple does everything in its power not to give birth to a Canadian.
Jack and Avery, of course, are an American right-wing power couple on 30 Rock, so they definitely don't want a little hoser in their ranks.
30 Rock, which is in its fifth season, has taken many hilarious shots at Canada through the years. There clearly are some Canada-knowledgeable people on the 30 Rock writing staff.
One of the most amusing Canadian 30 Rock references in the past was the blanket dismissal of "MTV Canada" ("They can't seem to get anything right up there, can they?"). Also, there was the addition of a Canadian cast member on TGS with Tracy Jordan who was nominated for a Juno - a.k.a., a "Canadian Grammy" - because he penned an Ottawa Senators "psych-up" song.
Other story lines featured on 30 Rock this Thursday include Liz (Tina Fey) and Carol (Matt Damon) having their own romantic getaway ruined when their plane gets stuck on the tarmac, and Tracy (Tracy Morgan) finding that unexpected pressure comes with his dream of being an EGOT (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, Tony) winner.
