OAKVILLE, Ont. -- Canadian women's soccer is losing one of its biggest stars.
A source says Kara Lang will announce her retirement at a news conference Wednesday in her hometown of Oakville, Ont.
The 24-year-old has been one of Canada's top players since she made her debut as a 15-year-old year in 2002.
But the powerful player known for her blistering shots has battled knee injuries for the past few years, tearing the anterior cruciate ligament in her right knee for the second time in September 2009 when she was playing for UCLA.
Lang scored 34 goals in 92 appearances for the Canadian women's senior side.
On the pro pitch, Lang played five seasons with the Vancouver Whitecaps of the W-League.
