The Canadians have come out flying and haven't let up against the U.S. in their semifinal at the world junior hockey championship on Monday night in Buffalo, N.Y., staking themselves to a 3-0 lead after the second period.
After Canada scored two in the first period, Ryan Johansen added to the lead on a 5-on-3 six minutes into the second.
U.S. goalie Jack Campbell was under siege in the second and was the chief reason why Canada wasn't up more than three after the frame. Canada outshot the U.S. 16-10 in the period and 28-15 overall heading into the third.
Curtis Hamilton opened the scoring at 2:38 of the first. He dashed into the American zone and slammed the puck home off the rush.
Quinton Howden made it 2-0 Canada at 13:54 of the frame, receiving a great pass from Brett Connolly on the rush and tipping the puck past Campbell.
The winner will play Russia in the gold-medal game on Wednesday.
