{allcanada} Bullock explains Reynolds 'date'

Sandra Bullock's publicist insists the actress' New Year's Eve 'date' with Ryan Reynolds was purely platonic - the stars spent the evening among "a group of old friends".

The Proposal co-stars, who both split from their partners last year, rang in 2011 together with a number of pals at Bullock's Bess Bistro restaurant in Texas.

Reynolds was linked to Bullock shortly after his split from his wife Scarlett Johansson last month, and internet gossips speculated the New Year's Eve celebrations signalled a blossoming romance.

But Bullock's representative has moved quickly to deny the rumours, explaining, "A group of old friends that included Ryan and Sandra spent New Year's together at Sandra's restaurant Bess Bistro.

"They all had a great time ringing in the New Year as they have in the past... as nothing more than friends."

Last March Bullock dumped husband Jesse James after his infidelities hit the headlines, while Reynolds and Johannson called time on their two-year marriage in December.
