The Toronto Blue Jays are giving a former Montreal Expo a chance to land a job in the bullpen.
Chad Cordero has signed a minor league contract with the Blue Jays and the 28-year-old will also receive an invite to spring training.
Cordero appeared in nine games last season with the Seattle Mariners, posting a 0-1 record with a 9.52 ERA in just over nine innings pitched. He was more successful in the minor leagues in 2010, finishing with a combined 1-2 record to go along with a 3.03 ERA and 36 strikeouts in 35.2 innings.
The right-hander, who had labrum surgery in 2008, was an All-Star in 2005 with the Washington Nationals, when he recorded 47 saves and a 1.82 ERA.
In his seven year career with Seattle, Washington and Montreal, Cordero has a 2.89 ERA in 330.1 innings pitched. During that time, his record is 20-15 with 128 saves.
