VANCOUVER -- Austin Madaisky and Thomas Frazee each scored a goal and added an assist to lead the Kamloops Blazers to a 4-1 win over the Vancouver Giants in Western Hockey League action Monday.
Chase Schaber and Dylan Willick also scored for Kamloops while Nathan Burns had the lone goal for Vancouver.
This was the halfway mark of the season for both teams. Kamloops (16-18-2) remains in the B.C. Division cellar with 34 points while Vancouver (16-15-5) currently sits third in the B.C. Division with 37 points.
Kamloops opened the scoring during four-on-four play in the first period. Frazee won a face-off back to Madaisky at the point and his shot deflected off the stick of a defender and ricocheted through a screen past Vancouver's goaltender at 14:30.
The Blazers doubled their lead in the second. Vancouver turned the puck over in its own zone and Willick scored his eighth of the year. The goal was assisted by Matt Needham, just the first WHL assist for the 15-year-old.
Vancouver got on the board just 1:21 later. Burns found himself open in front of the net after taking a pass from Matt MacKay and beat Blazers goalie Jeff Bosch for his fifth of the year.
However the Blazers regained their two-goal cushion just after a power play expired in the second period. Frazee went in alone on the Vancouver goalie Mark Segal, who made the initial save but watched as rebound went in off of his own defenceman at 17:37.
Kamloops' Schaber secured the win with a breakaway goal in the third period. He faked a shot to freeze Segal before scoring with a neat deke move to record his 14th of the year at 17:00.
Bosch made 28 saves in the win while at the other end Segal stopped 25 shots.
The teams play each other again in Kamloops, B.C., in the second half of the home-and-home series.
