{allcanada} WHL: HOOD HAS HAT TRICK TO LEAD WARRIORS PAST HITMEN

Dylan Hood had a hat trick Tuesday to lead the Moose Jaw Warriors to a 6-1 win over the Calgary Hitmen in the Western Hockey League.

Spencer Edwards had a goal and two assists for the Warriors (21-13-2), while former Hitmen forward Cody Beach scored once and set up another.

Joey Kornelsen also scored for the Warriors, who opened a seven-game road swing through western Canada following a nine-day Christmas break.

Justin Kirsch scored the lone goal of the game for the Hitmen (10-23-2) to extend his point-scoring streak to four games.

Moose Jaw goalie Thomas Heemskerk stopped 29 of 30 shots.

Calgary counterpart Michael Snider made 20 saves before being replaced at 10:25 of the third period by Brandon Glover, who made a pair of saves in relief.

Elsewhere in the WHL it was: Regina 4, Swift Current 3 (SO); Kootenay 6, Medicine Hat 3; Kamloops 6, Vancouver 1; Red Deer 4, Brandon 1; Spokane 2, Seattle 0; Tri-City 5, Portland 1; Kelowna 4, Everett 0; Chilliwack 3, Prince George 0.

At Calgary, the Warriors led by a pair after the first period on goals by Hood and Edwards before Beach scored at 1:16 of the second to put the visitors up 3-0.

Beach has scored twice and added 15 assists in 14 games for Moose Jaw since being acquired from Calgary in a trade on Nov. 16.

Just 64 seconds after Beach's goal, Kirsch replied for Calgary to snap Heemskerk's shutout bid. Calgary then failed to capitalize on five straight power-play chances, including a two-man advantage of nearly two minutes.

Kornelsen put the Warriors up 4-1 in the third period before Hood scored an empty-net goal and a power-play marker to round out the scoring.

The Hitmen went 0-for-9 on the power play, while the Warriors converted 2-of-6 opportunities with the man advantage.

Pats 4, Broncos 3, SO

At Regina, Jordan Weal and Colin Reddin scored in the shootout as the Pats got past Swift Current.

Weal added a goal and two assists in regulation for Regina (11-20-6), while Lyndon Martell and Garrett Mitchell had a goal and an assist each.

Taylor Vause scored twice in regulation for Swift Current (19-20-1), while Reece Scarlett had a goal and an assist.

Ice 6, Tigers 3

At Cranbrook, B.C.,Brenden Hurley and Brayden McNabb scored two goals apiece to lead Kootenay to a victory over Medicine Hat.

Drew Czerwonka and Joey Leach also scored for Kootenay (24-10-3).

Tyler Pitlick, with two, and Linden Vey scored for the Tigers (23-10-2).

Blazers 6, Giants 1

At Kamloops, B.C., Jordan DePape scored two goals to lead the Blazers over Vancouver.

Dylan Willick, Bronson Maschmeyer, Corey Fienhage and Thomas Frazee also scored for the Blazers (17-18-2).

Neil Manning replied for Vancouver (16-16-5).

Rebels 4, Wheat Kings 1

At Red Deer, Alta., Darcy Kuemper made 31 saves to lead the Rebels past Brandon.

Colten Mayor, Byron Froese, John Persson and Tyson Ness scored for the Rebels (23-10-4).

Scott Glennie replied for the Wheat Kings (13-20-5).

Chiefs 2, Thunderbirds 0

At Kent, Wash., James Reid made 29 saves to post his third shutout of the season to lead Spokane over Seattle.

Tyler Johnson opened the scoring for Spokane with an unassisted goal at 19:12 of the first period.

Steven Kuhn gave the Chiefs a two-goal lead at 11:48 of the third period.

Reid's win was his 20th of the season and lifts the Chiefs to 20-10-5. The loss drops Seattle to 15-12-7.

Americans 5, Winterhawks 1

At Portland, Ore., David Conrad and Jordan Messier both had a goal and an assist to lead Tri-City over the Winterhawks.

Tri City (20-11-2) controlled the tempo of play from beginning to end, outshooting Portland 52-21.

Tri-City also got goals from Brendan Shinnimin, Marcus Messier, and Spencer Humphries. Tyler Schmidt and Adam Hughesman had a pair of assists each to help the cause.

Oliver Gabriel replied for Portland (25-10-3).

Rockets 4, Silvertips 0

At Kelowna, B.C., Adam Brown stopped all 26 shots he faced for his first shutout of the season as the Rockets blanked Everett.

Evan Bloodoff had two goals and an assist for Kelowna (20-15-0), while Shane McColgan and Geordie Wudrick also scored.

Kent Simpson made 19 saves for Everett (16-16-5).

Bruins 3, Cougars 0

At Prince George, B.C., Lucas Gore made 29 saves as Chilliwack shut out the Cougars.

Mitch Topping and Curt Gogol had a goal and an assist each for Chilliwack (17-14-3). Mike Forsyth also scored for the Bruins.

Ty Rimmer made 22 saves in defeat for Prince George (18-15-3), which finished the night 0-for-5 on the power play.
