Jason Spezza may be lost to the Ottawa Senators for as long as six weeks, according to head coach Cory Clouston.
The forward suffered a right shoulder injury in Sunday's home game against the Pittsburgh Penguins. The damage appeared to occur when Pittsburgh's Kris Letang checked Spezza into the boards. Letang received a two-minute boarding penalty, while Spezza left the game and went directly to the dressing room.
The Senators confirmed on Monday that surgery on the shoulder will not be required.
Spezza, 27, has nine goals and 11 assists in 32 games this season. He missed a total of five games in October with a groin injury.
The Mississauga, Ontario native also missed 22 games last season, mostly because of a torn MCL that he suffered in January.
