Michael Latta had a rare empty-net winner to cap his hat trick as the Guelph Storm shocked the Mississauga St. Michael's Majors 6-5 in Ontario Hockey League action Sunday.

The white-hot Majors had earned at least a point in their previous 18 games, winning 17 and losing once in the shootout. This was only their third loss in regulation all season.

That streak catapulted Mississauga to the top of the OHL standings as well as the Canadian Hockey League's weekly power rankings.

Justin Shugg scored his second of the game to bring the Majors within one of the Storm at the 15:02 mark of the third period.

With a minute left in regulation and Guelph leading 5-4, Mississauga head coach Dave Cameron opted to pull goalie JP Anderson.

The move backfired as Latta scored his third of the afternoon, adding what appeared to be some insurance and giving Guelph a 6-4 lead.

However, immediately after play resumed Anderson and Storm goaltender Brandon Foote were ejected from the game for removing their helmets during a fight.

Riley Brace then scored on Garret Sparks, Foote's replacement in Guelph's net, to make it 6-5.

Elsewhere in the OHL it was: Brampton 7, Sarnia 4; Kingston 6, Ottawa 5 (SO); Sudbury 5, Barrie 3; Windsor 6, Oshawa 3 and Owen Sound 7, Sault Ste. Marie 4.

At Guelph, Ont., Tyler Carroll scored and added two assists for the Storm (11-12-4), while captain Taylor Beck had a goal and set up one other. Peter Holland also tallied.
