Saint John will host a game of the Canadian Hockey League Super Series between Canada and Russia this fall.
The series pits Canada's best major junior players against a Russian all-star team in a six-game, cross-country matchup.
Saint John secured a game Nov. 8 at Harbour Station that had originally been scheduled for St. John's.
Wayne Long, president of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League team the Saint John Seadogs, said the event could help the port city in its bid to host the CHL championships in two years.
"It's really not about making money on this event for us," he said. "It's about showcasing the organization, and again, for us to showcase ourselves nationally is great and bodes well for our bid towards the 2012 Memorial Cup."
Saint John has hosted a game in the Super Series before.
"We have a bit of a template of which follow from two years ago," Long said. "It's no secret that it was a huge success. We had 6,500-plus fans in the building.
"It was a great game, so once we got the OK to go ahead, we're actively busy, we're working, and we're going to put on one heck of a show."
