Saskatoon, Sask., Canada – DJ Kennington had the fastest car in NASCAR Canadian Tire Series presented by Mobil 1 practice for the Velocity Prairie Thunder, Wednesday, at Auto Clearing Motor Speedway.
Kennington, out of St. Thomas, Ont., patrolled the .333-mile oval in 14.673 seconds for an average speed of 81.701 mph. Kerry Micks posted the second-fastest time of 14.752 seconds (81.264 mph) followed by John Gaunt at 14.797 seconds (81.016 mph).
The fourth and fifth-fastest cars belonged to Jason Hathaway (14.831/80.831) and current points leader JR Fitzpatrick (14.885/80.537).
The remainder of the top 10 consisted of Don Thomson, Jr., Ron Beauchamp, Jr., defending race champion Scott Steckly, Anthony Simone and local competitor Nathan Weenk.
The top seven cars were all under the track record of 14.949 seconds set last season by Thomson in the series' inaugural trip to Saskatchewan. Later in qualifying, Kennington will be loooking to set his second track record in as many events after setting a new mark to beat in his last outing on July 31 at Motoplex Speedway in Vernon, B.C.
Qualifying for the Velocity Prairie Thunder is slated for 5 p.m. MT and the green flag is scheduled to be in the air at 7:30 p.m.
