LAS VEGAS -- Jeremy Accardo has spent most of the last two seasons with the triple-A Las Vegas 51s instead of the Toronto Blue Jays -- and he isn't happy about it.
The right-handed reliever told the Las Vegas Review-Journal in Sunday's online edition that he re-signed with Toronto after a frustrating 2009 season because general manager Alex Anthopoulos assured him he would get a chance with the big club.
"I was lied to a lot last year, where I was told one thing and something else ended up happening," said Accardo, who signed a one-year deal worth US$1.08 million in the off-season.
"That didn't sit well with me, but I turned (over) a (new) leaf and we talked and (Anthopoulos) told me everything's going to change, and really things haven't changed."
Accardo was the Blue Jays closer in 2007 when B.J. Ryan needed surgery. The 28-year-old recorded 30 saves to go along with a 2.14 earned-run average, but never regained that form in the big leagues after season-ending shoulder surgery in 2008.
Accardo made 26 appearances for the Blue Jays in 2009 and started this season with Toronto, but saw no action for the first two weeks before going 0-1 with an 8.10 ERA in five games.
"That's not setting someone up for success in my eyes," Accardo told the Review-Journal. "I'm not making excuses, but it's tough to get in a groove when you don't pitch."
In 40 games with Las Vegas this season, Accardo (2-2) has 23 saves and 26 strikeouts to go along with a 3.59 ERA.
