{allcanada} TIFF adds extra day to schedule

The Toronto International Film Festival has added an extra day for its 35th edition, set up plans to move some operations to its new home at the Bell Lightbox, and refined some of its ticketing packages.

Among the changes announced Monday, the festival will begin on Thursday, Sept. 9, and run through Sunday, Sept. 19. For many years, TIFF has wrapped on the Saturday night. Meanwhile, on Aug. 24, the box office will move from its present location at 2 Carlton Street (West Mezzanine) to the new location at 363 King Street West.

Special ticket packages for this year's festival went on sale Monday exclusively to VISA cardholders, with prices ranging from a one-day student pass for $19.69 to $524 for the 50-film My Choice pack.

Other key dates: On July 12 at 10 a.m., the 21 different packages will be available to everyone by VISA, cash or debit card. On Aug. 24, the full lineup will be available to ticket package holders to make their choices. On Sept. 2, the pickup and exchange process begins. On Sept. 3, individual tickets to many films finally go on sale.

The new wrinkle among the ticket packages is called The Canadian Pack and it guarantees five new Canadian films for $80. The titles will be selected by TIFF programmers. The new wrinkle in screening status is that any world or North American premiere will be labelled as a red carpet Premium Screening.

TIFF is gradually moving the core of the Toronto filmfest from the Yorkville hub down to the King Street Entertainment District. With that in mind, all of the TIFF Choice Packs (15 of the 21 ticket packages) will come with a free voucher for a future Bell Lightbox screening after the festival.
