According to a New York Post report, the Toronto Blue Jays are demanding Joba Chamberlain as the price for trading Scott Downs to the New York Yankees.

Wednesday's article stated that a source with knowledge of what the Jays want for the 34-year-old Downs said Toronto requested Chamberlain. An update to the New York Post report indicates the Yankees have balked at the high asking price for Downs, and are not willing to overpay for bullpen help.

The Post report also indicated that when the Red Sox contacted the Blue Jays about Downs, Toronto asked for highly regarded infield prospects Casey Kelly or Jose Iglesias.

Downs has roughly $1.33 million remaining on his current deal, and has been effective in his role as a left-handed specialist in limiting hitters to a .185 average (10-for-54). Right-handed hitters are batting .240 (23-for-96).

Chamberlain has struggled this season and has recently lost his lock on the eighth inning relief role. In 43 appearances this season, the 24-year-old has a record of 1-4 with an ERA of 5.95 in 42 1/3 innings.
