Toronto Argos offensive tackle Rob Murphy has upset the CFL league office with a series of Twitter posts he sent out Wednesday. Murphy and the rest of team traveled by train to Montreal, where they play the Alouettes Thursday night, and the mode of travel didn't seem to sit well with Murphy.
"At train station ... Pumped to be smelling foreigners this early in the A.M. They smell less offensive this way....little known fact," read one of Murphy's posts, under the account BIGMURPH56.
Murphy was born in Buffalo and has played in the CFL for four years, this being his first with the Argos.
"Ok...the novelty of riding on a train thru Ontario and "Frenchland" has worn out....get me off this damn thing!!!!" was another of his posts.
In a later post, Murphy responded to replies criticizing his posts by saying he was joking, and if anyone was offended they should just stop following his posts. He later posted an apology but the Argos have said his comments were in violation of the club's social media policy and, as a result, Murphy will be fined by the team.
Sportsnet's Arash Madani reports that the CFL head office is not happy with Murphy's comments and commissioner Mark Cohon will decide if there will be league discipline on the matter.
