{allcanada} Jays place Marcum on DL

TORONTO -- Toronto Blue Jays starter Shaun Marcum has landed on the 15-day disabled list with right elbow inflammation.

The 28-year-old is 7-4 through 17 starts with the team this year, posting a 3.44 earned-run average. Marcum, who missed all of last season following surgery on his right elbow, will reportedly undergo an MRI by the end of the weekend.

The Blue Jays have also recalled left-handed pitcher Marc Rzepczynski from their triple-A affiliate in Las Vegas. The 24-year-old has gone 4-3 in nine starts with the minor-league team, recovering from a broken finger suffered when he was hit by a line drive late in spring training.

Rzepczynski was 2-4 with a 3.67 ERA as a rookie with the Blue Jays last season.

Toronto also selected the contract of third baseman Edwin Encarnacion from Las Vegas.

The Blue Jays optioned third baseman Jarrett Hoffpauir to Las Vegas and outrighted outfielder Jeremy Reed, who has elected to become a free agent.
