WINNIPEG -- The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have released import linebacker Derrick Doggett.
"With the injury to Marcellus Bowman, we were forced to go with players who have more experience in our system at the linebacker position," Bombers GM Joe Mack said in a statement Thursday. "We thank Derrick for his hard work and great effort during his time as a Winnipeg Blue Bomber."
Doggett finished fourth in the league in 2009 in special teams tackles with 28 and also added nine tackles, an interception and forced fumble in 15 games with Winnipeg.
He left in January to sign with the Pittsburgh Steelers, but returned to Winnipeg after being cut in June.
Doggett had one special teams tackle in two games this season with the Blue Bombers.
"Back to Cali!!" Dogget tweeted. "Thanks to all my Winnipeg fans. I enjoyed it here and you will be seeing me play somewhere else."
Doggett, 25, played for the Edmonton Eskimos in 2008.
