Daryl Katz's Rexall Sports Corp. sports and entertainment group appears on the verge of controlling the lease of Hamilton's Copps Coliseum.
The goal in doing so for Edmonton businessman would be to control the potential arrival of a relocated or expansion NHL team.
Katz already owns the Edmonton Oilers and is in negotiations with the city for a new Edmonton arena in the downtown area. Public discussion of the arena was set to take place this week but has been delayed until the fall when a more detailed plan will be introduced.
Katz and his company have very ambitious plans similar to those of the Los Angeles-based sports and entertainment firm AEG.
