To me there's at least two types of 'surround sound' music presentations. The DSOTM type and the Cowboy Junkies type. The DSOTM type sound like "hey, we've got all these channels, and we're artists, look what we can do!" whilst the Cowboy Junkies type tries to capture the musical image as it sounded at the recording. Although the DSOTM type of presentation is great, I prefer the Cowboy Junkies type presentation.
BTW, Some people complain that Applewood Road is a 'mono' recording. It isn't, it's a single mic recording. It sounds superb upmixed! I can't wait to let yous listen to it upmixed!
