Moise Bombito is back in training with Nice.

The Canada centre-back has been out of action since breaking his leg in a 2-2 draw with Monaco on Oct. 5.

“It’s nice [to be back],” Bombito told the club’s social media accounts. “It’s a very good feeling, the feeling that I’m making progress in our journey. I know that I’m not far away. I have to continue, day after day as usual. We’ll see each other very soon.”

TSN’s Matt Scianitti notes that Canada sent a physiotherapist to France last month to aid in Bombito’s recovery.

A native of Montreal, the 26-year-old Bombito is in his second season in Ligue 1 following a move from Colorado Rapids with whom he was an MLS All-Star in 2024.

Capped 19 times by Canada, Bombito hasn’t suited up for the national team since an Oct. 15, 2024 friendly victory over Panama in Toronto.

Canada opens its 2026 FIFA World Cup on Jun. 12 at BMO Field against Bosnia and Herzegovina in Group B action. Jesse Marsch’s side will then relocate to Vancouver for the remainder of its group-stage play against Qatar and Switzerland.

{allcanada} Eby says MLS talks on Whitecaps 'constructive' as deleted post stirs controversy

VANCOUVER — B.C. Premier David Eby said talks with Major League Soccer commissioner Don Garber on the Vancouver Whitecaps' future were "constructive," as relocation concerns for the team grow.

Garber is in Vancouver for FIFA Congress events and met with Eby on Wednesday, following reports that the league has discussed relocating the club, with Las Vegas a leading option.

Eby released a video Wednesday night saying the province is "at the table fighting hard" to keep the team in Vancouver.

"We have the World Cup coming, we are a world-class football town — losing the Whitecaps is not an option," the premier said.

"I saw the shots of the fans out at the rally to save the Whitecaps. We are on the same side; we will fight hard to save our team."

Hours later, a now-deleted post from Garber’s X account replied: "Liar, liar pants on fire."

A league spokesperson later said the commissioner's account was hacked.

About three dozen Whitecaps fans gathered Thursday outside the Vancouver Convention Centre, where the 76th FIFA Congress is being held, greeting arriving soccer dignitaries with a protest amid uncertainty over the club’s future.

Fans held “Save the Caps” signs and sang club chants.

The demonstration comes as a campaign to keep the team in the city continues online, with a petition on savethecaps.com drawing 8,550 signatures as of Thursday morning.

The province has offered financial concessions tied to BC Place Stadium, but has ruled out buying the team.

Following his meeting with Garber, Eby told reporters the province would not transfer control of the provincially owned venue to the Whitecaps to stabilize the club’s finances, and added that the team has shown no interest in that option.

The premier said he plans to meet with the MLS commissioner again.

WONDERSHARE TECHNOLOGY CO., LIMITED

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Byron Buxton homered for the third time in four games and Ryan Jeffers hit a go-ahead, two-run drive that led the Minnesota Twins over the Toronto Blue Jays 7- 1 on Thursday night in the opener of a four-game series.

Daulton Varsho homered off Bailey Ober (3-1) in the fourth and Jeffers put the Twins ahead to stay at 2-1 in the bottom half against Kevin Gausman (2-2).

Buxton homered two innings later, his team-leading eighth, and Austin Martin added an RBI single later in the sixth. Buxton was 3 for 4 in his third three-hit game this season.

Minnesota won for the second time in its last nine games and the third time in 14.

Ober allowed four hits in six-plus innings. Anthony Banda, Andrew Morris and Justin Topa combined for two-hit relief for a Twins bullpen that entered with a 5.30 ERA, fourth-worst among big league bullpens.

Gausman allowed four runs, four hits and two walks in 5 2/3 innings. The four earned runs off him were a season high.

Throwing errors by third baseman Kazuma Okamoto and shortstop Andrés Giménez contributed to a pair of unearned runs in a three-run eighth.

Toronto LHP Patrick Corbin (0-0, 3.72 ERA) starts Friday against Minnesota RHP Simeon Woods Richardson (0-4, 6.30).

{allcanada} Stampeders QB Walker retiring after nine professional seasons

--
bannersPuppybear.tv - Rakuten.ca - Amazon.com - Swagbucks - MyPoints - DailyRewards

WONDERSHARE TECHNOLOGY CO., LIMITED

Calgary Stampeders quarterback P.J. Walker is calling it a career.

The veteran pivot informed the team of his decision to step away from professional football after nine seasons, it was announced on Thursday.

Walker, 31, signed with the Stampeders in Oct. 2024, and made 13 appearances for Calgary the following season.

The Elizabeth, N.J. native recorded 35 completions for 395 yards, two touchdowns, and four interceptions, also adding 32 yards and a score on the ground while mostly serving as a backup to Vernon Adams Jr.

Walker spent most of his years playing football south of the border with numerous stints in the National Football League and the XFL.

Following a storied collegiate career at Temple, Walker would sign a deal with the NFL’s Indianapolis Colts in 2017 after going undrafted, and mainly spent time on Indy’s practice squad for the next two seasons.

Walker would then head to the XFL for the 2019-20 season, where he would star under centre for the Houston Roughnecks by leading the league in completions (119), passing yards (1,338), and touchdowns (15) in five games before the season was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Walker then joined the NFL’s Carolina Panthers, where he made four appearances that year.

Following three years as backup with the Panthers, Walker also spent time with the Chicago Bears, Cleveland Browns and Seattle Seahawks from 2023-24, making nine starts and being active for 21 contests.

He held a quarterbacking record of 5-4-0, and threw for 2,135 yards, six touchdowns, and 16 interceptions with a 54.6 completion rate in his NFL career.

{allcanada} Investment group comes forward to buy Whitecaps and move team to Las Vegas

VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) — An investment group has come forward to buy the Vancouver Whitecaps and relocate the Major League Soccer club to Las Vegas.

The group is led by Grant Gustavson, grandson of B. Wayne Hughes, the founder of Public Storage. The Whitecaps were put up for sale 16 months ago, but no potential buyers had emerged publicly until Thursday.

“In the coming weeks and months, we look forward to the opportunity to share more, however, out of respect for the league’s deliberations and community stakeholders, we are refraining from sharing details of our proposal,” Gustavson said in a statement. “We look forward to continuing to work for a positive outcome for the game, the fans, the league and Las Vegas.”

Gustavson said the investment group will privately finance the deal to buy the team and relocate it and it is “not connected to any of the recently announced arena ideas in Las Vegas.”

Major League Soccer has said it would “evaluate all options” for the future of the Whitecaps, including a possible move. The team currently plays at BC Place, which will host seven games of this summer’s World Cup. But the league has said the lease situation with the stadium is untenable and would prefer a soccer-specific stadium for the team.

“It’s reaching a critical point,” MLS Commissioner Don Garber said Tuesday during a meeting with the Associated Press Sports Editors in New York.

Garber cited strict schedule restrictions from the government entity that owns and operates the building and an inability to add premium seating.

British Columbia’s government said Tuesday it is working with the Whitecaps to help the team lower costs and generate more revenue at BC Place — but it won’t be buying the team to prevent it from moving cities.

The team’s supporters were at Thursday’s meeting of the FIFA Congress in Vancouver, many waving signs that read “Save the ‘Caps.” Posters with the words were plastered across downtown.

Ravi Kahlon, B.C.’s minister of jobs and economic growth, said the team is now using the stadium at no cost, and any breaks that the team received this year could be extended for another year.

“Look, I think we should all be concerned,” Vancouver Mayor Ken Sim said following the congress at the Vancouver Convention Center. “And that goes well before Vegas came into the picture. We’ve been concerned. We’ve been working on this for more than a year. We can’t control what other groups that have an interest in our team, what they do. All we can do is control our destiny.”

Sim added that the city has identified a site where a new owner could build a stadium and entertainment district without taxpayer dollars. The next step would be a bridge deal with the province.

The Whitecaps and the provincial government — which owns BC Place through the provincial Crown corporation PavCo — signed a one-year lease earlier this year, which annually returns to the club about $1 million to $1.5 million that the province makes from hosting.

Garber has expressed hope the Whitecaps could find a way to remain in Vancouver and said expansion to Las Vegas could also be a possibility. Las Vegas is not necessarily the only city being discussed.

In a statement earlier this week, the Whitecaps said it had “serious conversations with more than 100 parties, and to date, no viable offer has emerged that would keep the club here.”

“The club has faced well-documented structural challenges around stadium economics, venue access, and revenue limitations that have made it difficult to attract buyers committed to keeping the team in Vancouver.”

A franchise fee that costs tens of millions of dollars to enter MLS 15 years ago is now worth hundreds of millions. In May 2023, a $500 million expansion fee was paid to secure the league’s 30th team in San Diego.

{allcanada} Caufield, Kopitar, Sanderson named finalists for Lady Byng Trophy

https://media.d3.nhle.com/image/private/t_ratio16_9-size40/dpr_2.0/f_png/prd/u5agk8ynl8vcu1dxkjow.png

Cole Caufield, Anze Kopitar and Jake Sanderson were named finalists for the Lady Byng Trophy on Thursday.

The winner of the award, which is given annually to the player voted best to combine sportsmanship, gentlemanly conduct and ability as voted on by the Professional Hockey Writers Association, will be announced at a later date.

Caufield finished second in the NHL with a career-high 51 goals this season, becoming the first player in Montreal Canadiens history to scored 50 goals since Stephane Richer in 1989-90. The 25-year-old right wing had 88 points in 81 games and was tied for 15th in scoring. He had 14 penalty minutes this season, the fewest among players in the top 25 in scoring. He took seven minor penalties while averaging 18:11 of ice time per game.

Caufield helped the Canadiens finish second in the Atlantic Division with a 48-24-10 record. They have a 3-2 lead over the Tampa Bay Lightning in the Eastern Conference First Round with Game 6 at Bell Centre on Friday (7 p.m. ET; CBC, TVAS, SN, ESPN2, The Spot). A first-time finalist, he would be the first Montreal player to win the award since Mats Naslund in 1987-88.

Kopitar is a finalist for the fifth time, and has won the award three times, including last season (also 2015-16 and 2022-23). He had 38 points (12 goals, 26 assists) in 67 games, taking five minor penalties all season, the fourth time in the past six seasons he has had 10 or fewer penalty minutes.

Playing in his 20th and final NHL season, all with the Los Angeles Kings, the 38-year-old center averaged 19:07 of ice time and also won 56.9 percent of his face-offs, often matched against the opposition's top lines. He helped the Kings reach the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the fifth straight season. They were swept in the first round by the Colorado Avalanche. Kopitar could become the first back-to-back winner of the award since Martin St. Louis did so for the Lightning in 2009-10 and 2010-11.

A two-time Stanley Cup champion with Los Angeles (2012, 2014), he has been Kings captain since June 16, 2016. In addition to his three Lady Byng wins, Kopitar twice won the Selke Trophy (2015-16, 2017-18) as the best defensive forward in the NHL, and the Mark Messier NHL Leadership Award (2021-22).

He will retire from the NHL with 1,316 points (452 goals, 864 assists) in 1,521 regular-season games.

Sanderson had 54 points (14 goals, 40 assists) in 67 games, while averaging 24:50 of ice time per game for the Ottawa Senators this season. He took four minor penalties all season while ranking ninth in the NHL in ice time per game. Though he was tied for 20th on the Senators with 29 hits, he led them with 128 blocked shots, and led all Ottawa defensemen with 31 takeaways.

In his fourth season with Ottawa, the 23-year-old helped the Senators reach the playoffs for the second straight season. They were swept by the Carolina Hurricanes in the first round.

A first-time finalist, Sanderson would be the first Senators player to win the award.

{allcanada} Jessica Campbell to leave Kraken, explore other NHL coaching roles

With her Seattle Kraken contract expiring, Jessica Campbell has plans to continue working in the NHL. It just won't be in Seattle.

The Kraken announced Thursday that Campbell, an assistant coach, is leaving the team with full support from the organization.

"As Jessica’s current contract expires, she has expressed her desire to explore other coaching roles across the league and we support her in this process,” Kraken general manager Jason Botterill said in a statement.

“Jessica has been an important member of our coaching staff for the past four years, demonstrating deep knowledge, and a unique ability to connect with and develop players. We respect her decision and believe strongly in her as a coach in this league.”

Campbell joined the Kraken in July 2024, becoming the first full-time female assistant coach in NHL history to work behind the bench during the regular season.

The 33-year-old joined the organization in July 2022 and was the assistant coach for the Kraken’s AHL affiliate, the Coachella Valley Firebirds, for two seasons. She helped the team reach the Calder Cup Final in both years.

The native of Moosomin, Sask., played for the Canadian women's hockey team at the 2015 world championship and helped the Calgary Inferno win the Clarkson Cup in 2016.

The Kraken missed the playoffs each of the past two seasons and only qualified once since their debut in 2021-22. The Firebirds made back-to-back trips to the Calder Cup Final when Campbell was on Dan Bylsma's AHL staff.

TORONTO — Kazuma Okamoto drove in two runs and Blue Jays starter Trey Yesavage impressed in his season debut as the Toronto Blue Jays defeated the Boston Red Sox 3-0 on Tuesday night.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. had two hits and a run as Toronto ended Boston’s three-game winning streak.

Yesavage (1-0), who missed the first month of the season as he recovered from a shoulder impingement, allowed four hits over 5 1/3 shutout innings. He didn’t walk a batter and had three strikeouts.

Mason Fluharty, Jeff Hoffman, Tyler Rogers and Louis Varland provided 3 2/3 innings of hitless relief as the Blue Jays (13-16) won for the third time in four games.

In the third inning, Andres Gimenez led off with a single and moved to third on a Guerrero double. Okamoto then lashed a drive to the wall that scored both runners before he was thrown out at second base.

Boston left-hander Payton Tolle (0-1) was pulled after giving up back-to-back two-out walks in the fifth. Guerrero singled off reliever Zack Kelly’s first pitch to bring home Myles Straw.

Two innings later, Guerrero was hit in the left forearm by a pitch from Ryan Watson but stayed in the game.

Varland earned his fourth save of the season. Toronto outhit Boston 6-4.

TAKEAWAYS

Blue Jays: Reinforcements will soon be coming to the injury-plagued lineup. Designated hitter George Springer (toe) could be activated any day and right-hander Jose Berrios (elbow) could make his season debut this weekend.

Red Sox: It was Boston’s first loss under interim manager Chad Tracy. He took over as skipper after Alex Cora was fired over the weekend.

KEY MOMENT

Okamoto’s two-run hit put a charge into the sellout crowd of 41,949.

KEY STAT

It was Yesavage’s fourth career regular-season start. He made his big-league debut last September.

COMING UP

The three-game series concludes Wednesday afternoon. The Blue Jays have yet to announce their starter while right-hander Brayan Bello (1-3, 9.00) was tabbed for the Red Sox (12-18).

CLEVELAND (AP) — Dennis Schroder scored 11 of his 19 points in the fourth quarter, Evan Mobley hit a pair of pivotal 3-pointers in the final period and finished with 23 points, and the Cleveland Cavaliers rallied for a 125-120 victory over the Toronto Raptors on Wednesday night in Game 5 of their first-round series.

Cleveland leads the series 3-2. Game 6 is Friday night in Toronto.

James Harden scored 23 points and Donovan Mitchell added 19 for the Cavaliers.

RJ Barrett led Toronto with 25 points while Ja’Kobe Walter added 20 and Jamal Shead had 18 off the bench. All-star forward Brandon Ingram left the game in the second quarter with right heel inflammation.

The Raptors led 74-67 at halftime and scored the first five points of the third quarter. The Cavaliers slowly rallied but trailed 103-100 going into the final 12 minutes.

Cleveland seized control by scoring the first eight points of the fourth quarter. Jaylon Tyson hit a step-back 3-pointer to tie it at 103-all, and a 3 by Mobley gave the Cavaliers a 106-103 lead.

Toronto missed its first 11 shots and was 7 of 28 from the field in the fourth while Cleveland made 7 of its first 11 and was 9 of 19.

{allcanada} Texier breaks 3rd-period tie, Canadiens beat Lightning 3-2 in Game 5 to take series lead

--

Simply Wholesale

TAMPA, Fla. — (AP) — Alexandre Texier broke a tie 1:06 into the third period and the Montreal Canadiens beat the Tampa Bay Lightning 3-2 on Wednesday night to take a 3-2 lead in the first-round series.

Rookie Jakub Dobes stopped 38 shots to help Montreal move within a victory of advancing for the first time since losing to the Lightning in the Stanley Cup Finals in 2021.

Brendan Gallagher got his first goal in his first game this series and Kirby Dach also scored for the Canadiens.

“It’s obviously exciting,” said Gallagher, who was a healthy scratch the first four games. “It’s been a fun series to watch. I tried to follow their lead and find a way to contribute and I did that.”

Game 6 is Friday night in Montreal, where the teams split Games 3 and 4. All five games have been decided by one goal, including overtime in the first three.

Dominic James scored his first career playoff goal and Jake Guentzel also connected for the Lightning. They are one loss from being eliminated in the first round for the fourth straight season.

Tampa Bay has lost 10 of its last 12 home games in the postseason despite 460 consecutive sellouts.

“We got no choice now. We got to show up or we’re out,” Lightning forward Brayden Point said.

Texier took a long pass from Lane Hutson, skated into the left circle and ripped a shot that bounced off Andrei Vasilevskiy’s glove and into the net for a 3-2 lead early in the third.

“I’m not a 50-goal scorer,” Texier said. “When I have a chance, I just try to put it on net and sometimes you’re lucky it’s in and sometimes not.”

The Canadiens jumped ahead three minutes into the game when Gallagher wristed in a rebound after Vasilevskiy kicked away Alex Newhook’s backhander. Gallagher, the 14-year veteran, spent time the first four games giving the young players advice.

“I was happy for him and happy for us,” Canadiens coach Martin St. Louis said about Gallagher. “Really happy the way he’s handled everything and not surprised the way he played.”

Seconds after James blasted a slap shot past Dobes on a 2-on-1 breakaway, the Canadiens regained the lead. Dach skated down the left side, went around a defender, lost the puck, kicked it from his skate to his stick in front of the net and put it in.

Dach deactivated his Instagram account after receiving online criticism because his defensive lapse led to the winning goal in overtime in Game 2. He had a goal and an assist in Montreal’s 3-2 overtime win the next game.

Guentzel fired a slap shot between Dobes’ legs on another 2-on-1 breakaway to tie it at 2 late in the second. Guentzel has the best playoff goal-scoring ratio among American-born players in NHL history with 43 goals in 79 games.

The Lightning killed off a four-minute disadvantage after Ryan McDonagh’s double minor for high-sticking in the first period. The Canadiens managed just one shot on net during the power play.

Montreal had better scoring chances on two of Tampa Bay’s power plays in the second period. Vasilevskiy stopped Jake Evans on a short-handed breakaway on one of them.

EDMONTON — Leon Draisaitl scored a pair of goals and Evan Bouchard chipped in with three assists as the Edmonton Oilers dug deep to stave off elimination, defeating the Anaheim Ducks 4-1 on Tuesday to force Game 6 in California.

Vasily Podkolzin and Zach Hyman also scored for the Oilers who had previously allowed six separate leads to slip away in the first four games of the best-of-seven playoff series.

Connor McDavid and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins each had a pair of assists. Edmonton now owns an all-time record of 18-3 when scoring first in a game when facing elimination.

Alex Killorn replied for the Ducks who take a 3-2 lead back home in their first playoff series since 2018.

Connor Ingram made 29 stops to record the win in Edmonton’s net, while Ville Husso recorded 10 saves for Anaheim after coming in to relieve Lukas Dostal, who allowed three goals on nine shots.

For the fifth straight game the Oilers struck first, scoring on the game’s first shot just 2:22 into the contest as Podkolzin beat Dostal up high for his second of the post-season.

Edmonton took a 2-0 lead 8:33 into the opening period as a point shot was deflected twice, the second time through Dostal’s legs by Hyman, who recorded his second of the playoffs.

The Oilers took a three-goal lead just 1:14 later as Draisaitl tipped a Bouchard point shot in for his second of the playoffs. That spelled an early end of the night for Dostal. It was the fifth fastest three goals to start a playoff game in Edmonton franchise history.

Anaheim got on the board with their lethal power play 8:26 into the second frame as Mason McTavish dropped it back to Killorn, who extended his points streak to four games with his third goal of the playoffs.

Edmonton responded with a power-play goal of its own a couple minutes later on a wicked one-timer by Draisaitl for his second of the game. Draisaitl tied Wayne Gretzky for the most post-season power-play goals in franchise history at 23.

There was no scoring in the third.

The Ducks outshot Edmonton 24-8 over the final 40 minutes.

NOTES

Edmonton has played the most playoff games of any NHL team since 2022 with 80, two more than the Florida Panthers, who beat the Oilers in the last two Stanley Cup finals before failing to qualify this season … Playing in his 80th career playoff game, Bouchard collected his 88th point, moving into a tie for third place all-time for players through 80 games with Brian Leetch, behind only Bobby Orr (92) and Paul Coffey (92) … McDavid (63 points) passed Adam Oates for the second-most points in NHL history when trailing in a playoff series. Only Gretzky (80) has more.

UP NEXT

Game 6 takes place Thursday night at the Honda Center in Anaheim.
