
TAMPA-- Vancouver Canucks rookie forward Brock Boeser scored the tiebreaking goal and Edmonton Oilers center Connor McDavid had four assists for the Pacific Division in a 5-2 victory against the Central Division in the first semifinal at the 2018 Honda NHL All-Star Game at Amalie Arena on Sunday.
Boeser's shot from the slot went into the top left corner of the net to break a 2-2 tie with 1:46 remaining in the second period. San Jose Sharks defenseman Brent Burns (1:22 remaining) and Vegas Golden Knights forward James Neal (42 seconds remaining) added empty-net goals for the Pacific.
Neal scored two goals for the Pacific Division, which advanced and will play the winner of the second semifinal between the Metropolitan Division and the Atlantic Division.
The Central took a 1-0 lead when Colorado Avalanche forward Nathan MacKinnon scored off a shot from the high slot which went in off right post 1:47 into the game. Los Angeles Kings defenseman Drew Doughty scored on a breakaway 4:13 into the second period to pull the Pacific even at 1-1.
Neal finished off a 3-on-1 rush with 3:03 remaining in the second period to give the Pacific a 2-1 lead, but Nashville Predators defenseman P.K. Subban answered with a breakaway goal with 2:31 left to make it 2-2.
Pacific goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury of the Golden Knights stopped seven of the eight shots in the first period, which included two saves on breakaways from Chicago Blackhawks forward Patrick Kane.
Calgary Flames goaltender Mike Smith made seven saves in the second period for the Pacific.
Central goaltender Pekka Rinne of the Predators stopped all four shots he faced in the first period. Winnipeg Jets goaltender Connor Hellebucyk made five saves in the second period for the Central.
