{allcanada} NHL makes ruling on pick conditions for Neal-Lucic trade

The NHL has made a ruling on the pick conditions in the July 2019 trade involving James Neal and Milan Lucic, according to Sportsnet's Chris Johnston.

The Edmonton Oilers, who acquired Neal in exchange for Lucic, will transfer their third-round pick in either 2020 or 2021 to the Calgary Flames to complete the transaction.

Edmonton has until the start of the third round in the 2020 NHL draft to decide which pick it will send to Calgary.

When the trade was confirmed last July, Calgary was set to receive a conditional third-round pick in the 2020 draft, with Edmonton retaining 12.5 per cent of Lucic's remaining contract.

Johnston also reported that the NHL amended conditions in the Feb. 5 trade between the Los Angeles Kings and Toronto Maple Leafs involving Jack Campbell and Kyle Clifford.

The Maple Leafs would owe the Kings a 2021 second-round pick if they win their qualifying-round series against the Columbus Blue Jackets, and Jack Campbell gets two or more wins, or if they re-sign Kyle Clifford for next season.

In a third, more complicated ruling, the NHL ironed out the trade between the Carolina Hurricanes and New Jersey Devils involving Sami Vatanen — who was acquired from the Devils for defenceman Fredrik Claesson, forward prospect Janne Kuokkanen and conditional fourth-round pick in the 2020 NHL Draft.

That fourth-round pick can change in three ways, according to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman:

• If Carolina beats the New York Rangers, and Vatanen plays in 70 per cent of the Hurricane's playoff games (not including the play-in round), New Jersey gets Carolina's third-round pick this year.

• If Vatanen plays in less than 70 per cent of Carolina's playoff games, then the pick is dependent on how many appearances Vatanen makes against the Rangers. If he appears twice and Carolina wins the series, New Jersey gets Carolina's fourth rounder this year. If he appears twice and the Rangers win, the Hurricanes get the choice of a fourth-round pick this year or next year. If he doesn't play twice against the Rangers, no pick goes to New Jersey.

{allcanada} 3 Keys: Blackhawks vs. Oilers, Game 1 of Cup Qualifiers

No. 12 Blackhawks vs. No. 5 Oilers

3 p.m. ET; NBC, SN

The Chicago Blackhawks and Edmonton Oilers begin their Stanley Cup Qualifier series Saturday at Rogers Place in Edmonton, the hub city for the Western Conference. The series winner will qualify for the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the first time since 2017.

It remains unknown who will be the starting goalies. Blackhawks coach Jeremy Colliton and Oilers coach Dave Tippett each declined to make an announcement Friday. Each team used two goalies in winning its exhibition game earlier this week.

Chicago, the visiting team in the first two games in the best-of-5 series, went 2-1-0 against Edmonton in the regular season.

There hasn't been a best-of-5 series in the NHL since 1986. The League used them for the preliminary round of the playoffs from 1980-86, and the team that won Game 1 went on to win the series 87.5 percent of the time (49 of 56).

Here are 3 keys to Game 1:

1. Who's in net?

Corey Crawford made 11 saves in 30:06 in Chicago's 4-0 exhibition win against the St. Louis Blues on Wednesday after missing all but the final day of training camp following a positive test for COVID-19. He said Thursday he expects to start Game 1.

Colliton's other option is Malcolm Subban, who has never started a game for the Blackhawks. Acquired in a trade from the Vegas Golden Knights on Feb. 24, he made 10 saves in 29:04 against the Blues.

After missing 80 games the previous two season because of concussions, Crawford was 16-20-3 with a 2.77 goals-against average, a .917 save percentage and one shutout in 40 games (39 starts) this season. He started Chicago's final eight games before the season was paused March 12 due to concerns surrounding the coronavirus.

Tippett's options are Mike Smith and Mikko Koskinen. The two shared the workload nearly evenly during the season. Smith was 19-12-6 with a 2.95 GAA and .902 save percentage in 39 games (37 starts), and Koskinen was 18-10-3 with a 2.75 GAA and .917 save percentage in 38 games (34 starts).

2. Containing McDavid, Draisaitl

The Blackhawks must contain Oilers centers Leon Draisaitl and Connor McDavid, who finished first and second in the NHL scoring race, to have any chance of winning. Draisaitl scored an NHL career-high 110 points (43 goals, 67 assists) in 71 games, winning the Art Ross Trophy as the leading scorer, and is a finalist for the Hart Trophy as NHL MVP. McDavid, Edmonton's captain, scored 97 points (34 goals, 63 points) in 64 games.

In three games against Chicago this seaon, Draisaitl scored seven points (one goal, six assists). McDavid was held without a point in two games.

McDavid, who scored 16 points (four goals, 12 assists) in the final nine games before the season was paused, scored two goals in Edmonton's 4-1 exhibition win against the Calgary Flames on Tuesday. Draisaitl had an assist.

3. Special-teams advantage

The Oilers had the No. 1 power play in the NHL (29.5 percent) and the No. 2 penalty kill (84.4 percent), behind the San Jose Sharks (85.7 percent). Draisaitl led the NHL with 45 power-play points, and McDavid was second with 44. Edmonton went 3-for-7 on the power play and 8-for-8 on the penalty kill in its three games against Chicago.

The Blackhawks were 28th on the power play (15.2 percent) and tied for eighth on the penalty kill (82.1 percent). In the win against the Blues, they went 2-for-4 on the power play and 4-for-4 on the penalty kill.

{allcanada} Kim Cattrall’s ‘Filthy Rich’, Spectrum Drama ‘L.A.’s Finest’ Get Fox Premiere Dates & Trailer

As we roll toward the coronavirus-disrupted fall TV season, Fox has set premiere dates for a pair of drama series. Its Kim Cattrall-fronted Filthy Rich will bow at 9 p.m. Monday, following the 8 p.m. launch of Spectrum Originals pickup L.A.'s Finest, starring Gabrielle Union and Jessica Alba.

Watch the trailer for Filthy Rich above.

When Fox released its initial fall schedule back in May, Filthy Rich was set for the 9 p.m. Tuesday slot, with Season 1 of L.A.'s Finest as the lead-in for new AI drama neXt on Mondays. That John Slattery-fronted show now is taking the 9 p.m. Monday slot, as Fox revealed a week ago.

Created by Tate Taylor, Filthy Rich stars Sex and the City alumna Cattrall as Margaret Monreaux, the matriarch of a mega-rich Southern family famous for creating a wildly successful Christian television network. After her husband dies in a plane crash, Margaret and family are stunned to learn that he fathered three illegitimate children, all of whom are written into his will — threatening their family name and fortune. Melia Kreiling, Aubrey Dollar, Corey Cott, Benjamin Levy Aguilar, Mark L. Young and Olivia Macklin co-star along with Steve Harris and Aaron Lazar.

Filthy Rich writer-director Taylor executive produces the series from 20th Century Fox Television, Imagine Television and Fox Entertainment alongside Brian Grazer, Francie Calfo, John Norris and showrunner Abe Sylvia. Cattrall is a producer.

Spawned from the universe of Jerry Bruckheimer's Bad Boys movie franchise L.A.'s Finest stars Union and Alba as cops taking on the most dangerous criminals in Los Angeles. Union plays Syd Burnett, last seen in Miami taking down a drug cartel, who has seemingly left her complicated past behind to become an LAPD detective. Paired with a new partner, Nancy McKenna (Alba), a working mom with an equally complex history, Syd is forced to confront how her unapologetic lifestyle may be masking a greater personal secret.

Fox will air Season 1 of L.A.'s Finest, which debuted exclusively on Spectrum in May 2019. Produced by Sony Pictures Television, its second season was slated to premiere June 8 on the cabler's channel but was pushed at the last minute amid the protests over George Floyd's death. The new season's premiere date now is TBD.

Re: [SurroundSound] Connection Problem

Hi Gary - I probably confused things by mentioning the Mac. I saw some posts which suggested it was troublesome getting a Mac to work with the Hub, and so started with the PC. I have only the one setup running (or should say nearly running), and that's on the PC.

Thanks for the input!  Cheers - Neil

Re: [SurroundSound] Connection Problem

Did you release the ports in your router for both pc's?
I had a similar issue, because I tried to use 2 different pc's (not at the same time).
Often you release a port only for one special pc.....

{allcanada} Hockey Diversity Alliance, NHL struggling to find common ground

The National Hockey League plans to address social injustice on Saturday prior to puck drop after a 142-day pause, but members of the Hockey Diversity Alliance say they aren't buying the authenticity of the league's message.

HDA co-head Evander Kane, a San Jose Sharks winger, says the newly formed group comprised of nine current and former players has been unable to find common ground with the NHL after more than a month of dialogue.

"The NHL can put 'Black Lives Matter' all over the rink, shout 'Black Lives Matter' from the mountains," Kane said this week in a phone interview. "No matter what they do or say, it's all going to fall on deaf ears with me and every other person in the HDA because the league has made no effort to support its own Black players."

Kane said the HDA has made presentations over the past several weeks – including a detailed PowerPoint proposal with specific asks to NHL commissioner Gary Bettman and senior vice president of social impact Kim Davis – but the league has yet to agree to any of them. Discussions remain ongoing.

When asked to respond to Kane's claim about the lack of support, Davis responded: "To the assertion that the league has made 'no effort to support its own Black players', I'm not sure what this means — generally throughout the years?" Davis wrote in an email. "Specifically relating to the HDA? Has [he] spoken to all 19 of the active Black players across the league? Just not sure on what basis this conclusion was reached."

The HDA and NHL met on Wednesday afternoon in a Zoom call that Kane characterized as "pretty hostile at times."

Davis said the NHL plans to formally unveil the league's return-to-play campaign called "#WeSkateFor" on Saturday before games in the Toronto and Edmonton hubs.

But Kane said the NHL's "#WeSkateFor" – with a blank ending to be filled in by players and teams – dilutes the HDA's campaign to eradicate racism across hockey by broadening the social scope.

When the NHL introduced the #WeSkateFor program July 24, among the examples the league cited were #WeSkateFor frontline workers, #WeSkateFor nurses, #WeSkateFor Edmonton Oilers forward Colby Cave, #WeSkateFor equality and #WeSkateFor Black Lives Matter.

"We support all of those issues and we always have," Kane said. "But this is the NHL's campaign to talk about our issue. They're trying to wrap all of these separate issues – including mental health, LGTBQ, women's rights, everything – into one, when our message is about racism. It completely yet again misses the mark and is so out of touch with what we're talking about."

Kane said the HDA was not advised of or consulted on the NHL's #WeSkateFor initiative, nor has it been involved or asked for an opinion or advice on Saturday's Qualifying Round-opening messaging.

"Seriously, one of the #WeSkateFor things in a presentation was '#WeSkateFor These Moments.' I'm not even kidding," Kane said. "It's disappointing the lack of interest we're facing in addressing systemic racism in our sport."

Davis asked on Thursday for the HDA to reserve judgment until after Saturday's ceremonies.

"Until you see how the treatment of anti-racism and 'Black Lives' actually rolls out on Saturday, it's probably premature to judge how effectively we deliver the message, and whether we've 'missed the mark'," Davis wrote.

"Our overarching social justice banner is #WeSkateFor Equality, under which we will specifically amplify ending racism and skating for Black Lives," Davis wrote. "The opening ceremony will – through video, narration and signage – demonstrate our commitment and gratitude to our fans, our communities, and those who have been on the frontline of both the racial injustice and health pandemics."

Frustration has grown within the HDA in watching the NHL's messaging before exhibition games this week inside the Edmonton and Toronto bubbles.

Over the first two days of exhibition games, teams have joined together on the blueline or around the centre-ice circle, but Kane said the message surrounding that has been vague, too. Two teams said they were standing in solidarity. The Vancouver Canucks said they joined together with the Winnipeg Jets "in support of all frontline workers and against acts of racism and acts of hate."

"Solidarity? Solidarity for what?" Kane asked. "No one wants to admit there is an issue in our game."

Minnesota Wild defenceman Matt Dumba put his arm around Colorado Avalanche forward Nazem Kadri, a fellow HDA executive board member, on the blueline prior to Wednesday's game.

"It's a start," Dumba said in a phone interview. "But each team is going to say and do something different. Does that address the issues behind it? I don't know. I don't think so."

Kadri told reporters after the game: "We're all trying to make it better. We're trying to make the game more diverse and the diversity in the game doesn't happen with racism still going on. So that's an important thing for us to address. As players we have addressed that. From a league standpoint, you know, I think we'd like to see a little bit more acknowledgement and having them address the situation and know that they stand with their players."

Kane said the HDA has proposed a series of reforms, including a pledge initiated by the HDA to eradicate racism in hockey, a commitment to hiring targets for Black hockey and non-hockey employees around the NHL, and funding of key HDA initiatives, including grassroots programs to provide a lifeline to kids from minority backgrounds.

To accomplish that, Kane said the HDA asked for $10 million (U.S.) per year, or a little more than $300,000 per team. Formally established June 8, the HDA is being advised by five prominent Black Canadian businessmen and lawyers and receiving guidance from former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick.

Davis says the NHL is taking the HDA's asks seriously.

"I have met with the HDA four times and commissioner Bettman has joined three of those meetings, all have run in excess of 1-1/2 to two hours," Davis wrote. "Given all that is going on to get hockey up and run, this (at least in my opinion) demonstrates commitment and desire to partner. There are many details in the HDA's ask of the NHL, and as in any partnership, it is a two-way dialogue. We are committed to collaborating with the HDA, we look forward to harnessing their passions, insights and expertise to grow the game, and are confident that we will work through the details."

The HDA also asked the NHL for recognition and visibility as part of the NHL's return-to-play format.

Dumba, the Wild's King Clancy Trophy nominee for humanitarian contribution to his community this season, said HDA members are the most qualified people in the league to address racism in hockey because all nine have faced it during their careers.

Davis wrote, "Let me say that I have nothing but respect for the lived experiences of every member of the HDA and other Black players, Players of Colour and minorities in our sport who have had to endure racism and discrimination throughout their hockey journey."

"There is no better group to address the issues of right now," Dumba said. "We are dialled in. We are men of action, taking action. We're doing this so the kids that look like us, that come after us, know people are willing to fight and use their voices. We're trying to be that protector, to help suppress negative thoughts and be there for kids to generate a safe environment."

It's why the HDA views Saturday's restart as a significant milestone for the NHL to recognize the change that occurred in the world between games.

"I think it's a pivotal weekend, whether they see it this way or not," Dumba said. "Change doesn't just happen overnight. There's still time left for these guys to make this right. We'll see."

{allcanada} Leafs’ Marner joins ownership group of esports company OverActive Media

TORONTO — Maple Leafs forward Mitch Marner has joined the ownership group of OverActive Media, the parent company of the Overwatch League's Toronto Defiant and Call of Duty League's Toronto Ultra esports teams.

The 23-year-old Marner, a keen gamer himself, joins The Weeknd as part of the ownership group. The Toronto R&B singer and producer, whose real name is Abel Tesfaye, joined OverActive in April 2019.

Marner joins an ownership group that includes more than 80 individuals including the Kimel Family — Michael Kimel is part-owner of the Pittsburgh Penguins — as well as tech entrepreneur Sheldon Pollack and Bell.

"Over the past few months, I've live-streamed with several Toronto Ultra players and built some great friendships with the team at OverActive," Marner said in a statement. "As a gamer, my investment is an opportunity to join one of the best global esports organizations and to help bridge the gap between hockey fans and esports.

"I'm looking forward to working with the players and the front office to introduce the Toronto Ultra and Toronto Defiant to a young audience of traditional sport fans."

Marner and pro gamer Anthony (Methodz) Zinni, who competes for the Toronto Ultra, are friends and have played "Call of Duty: Warzone" together.

"He's actually pretty good," Zinni said of Marner, who agreed to a US$65.4-million, six-year contract with the Leafs last September.

Chris Overholt, CEO and president of OverActive Media, said the esports company was thrilled to welcome a "hometown hero and hockey superstar" to the ownership group.

"Mitch's authenticity within the 'Call of Duty' scene and his interest in growing the esports industry will be such great additions to our fan base and to each of our franchises," he added.

OverActive Media also owns the Madrid-based MAD Lions franchises in the League of Legends European Championship and CS:GO.

{allcanada} AHL hoping to start 2020-21 season Dec. 4

The American Hockey League anticipates starting the 2020-21 season Dec. 4.

The decision came at the recommendation of the league's Return to Play Task Force. Further details regarding the 2020-21 AHL schedule are still to be determined.

The AHL, the top developmental league for the NHL, suspended its season March 12 due to concerns surrounding the coronavirus, and subsequently canceled the remainder of the season and the Calder Cup Playoffs on May 11. It was the first time since the AHL was formed in 1936-37 that the Calder Cup was not awarded.

Charlotte, the top affiliate of the Carolina Hurricanes, won the Calder Cup last season, defeating Chicago (Vegas Golden Knights) in five games in the best-of-7 series.

{allcanada} Seth Rogen says he was ‘fed a huge amount of lies about Israel’

Seth Rogen claims that Hebrew school left him painfully misinformed about the state of Israel.

"As a Jewish person I was fed a huge amount of lies about Israel my entire life," the 38-year-old actor said on Marc Maron's WTF podcast.

"They never tell you that, 'Oh, by the way, there were people there.' They make it seem like it was just like sitting there, like the f..king door's open.

"They forget to include the fact to every young Jewish person."

The Canadian-born comedian whose parents met on a kibbutz in Israel attended a jewish elementary day school and a zionist youth group camp.

Rogen also said that his father warned him about anti-semitism.

"I remember my dad frankly telling me,  'People hate Jews. Just be aware of that. They just do,'" Rogen said.

The "Super Bad" star will soon be seen in "An American Pickle" in which he plays a struggling East European laborer and his great-grandson.

Ciao Buster,
latest Catalina 10.15.6 has solved me MANY issues I had with previous Catalina releases: really true.

But I've just solved the issue: honestly it was long time that I didn't connect to the vault, 'cos of "nice" covid-wise focus to work, and last time I was still with my previous machine.  Yes, I did change the Mac and the network address... You may imagine I did still have a fixed binding of Eiksalt required ports with my old Mac IP... Ouch... I had to change the NAT settings: my fault!

Online and working again.

Best,
Gianluca

{allcanada} Hellebuyck backstops Jets to win over Canucks in NHL exhibition play

EDMONTON — The Winnipeg Jets, backed by the razor-sharp goaltending of Connor Hellebuyck, overcame a sloppy first period to beat the Vancouver Canucks 4-1 in exhibition play Wednesday.

Hellebuyck batted away numerous one-timers from below the face-off dot and stoned Canucks sniper Brock Boeser on a breakaway to bail out his teammates before the Jets found their feet and wore down Vancouver and its goaltender Jacob Markstrom.

Tucker Poolman, Nikolaj Ehlers, Dmitry Kulikov and Blake Wheeler supplied the Jets offence. Antoine Roussel scored for the Canucks.

Hellebuyck, a Vezina Trophy finalist, stopped 37-of-38 shots while Markstrom turned aside 30-of-33, with Wheeler's goal into an empty net.

The Jets were outshot 12-7 in the first period, but opened the scoring with just over one minute left in the frame when defenceman Poolman fired a wrist shot just inside the blue line through heavy traffic past a screened Markstrom.

Markstrom didn't get the help he needed as the Jets began to dominate the cycle in Vancouver's end in the second period to add two more goals.

With just over five minutes left in the frame, Jet winger Patrik Laine blasted a shot in full stride on a 2-on-1 that Markstrom blocked, but allowed a juicy rebound that Ehlers buried into an open net.

Less than two minutes later, with the Canucks unable to clear the puck from their own zone, Kulikov jumped up in the slot, took a drop pass from Jack Roslovic and buried a shot through bodies stickside on Markstrom.

The Canucks finally got to Hellebuyck with just under seven minutes to go in the game, when Roussel poked one under his pads in a goal-mouth scramble.

Wheeler dumped the puck into an empty net with 1:39 remaining as the Canucks pulled Markstrom for a 6-on-5 advantage.

Hellebuyck led all goalies with six shutouts in the regular season — while facing a shooting gallery at times in front of defence that had to be retooled due to a number of departures, including Jacob Trouba, Dustin Byfuglien, and Tyler Myers (who went to Vancouver) — before COVID-19 halted play.

Hellebuyck had a 31-21-5 record with a .922 save percentage while Markstrom was 23-16-4 with a .918 save percentage.

It was the second night of exhibition play at Rogers Place, the hub city for 12 Western Conference teams vying to win the Stanley Cup while staying isolated from the public to prevent contracting COVID-19.

Toronto is hosting the 12 contenders from the Eastern Conference.

The Jets, seeded 9th in the Western Conference with a 37-28-6 record, open their best-of-five elimination series against the Calgary Flames Saturday.

Calgary, seeded eighth, lost its exhibition matchup 4-1 to Edmonton Tuesday.

Vancouver, seeded seventh with a 36-27-6 record, plays the 10th-ranked Minnesota Wild beginning Sunday.
