Ottawa Senators forward Ridly Greig has been suspended for the first two games of the 2026-2027 NHL regular season for roughing Carolina Hurricanes’ defenceman Sean Walker in the team’s first-round playoff series.
The incident occurred during a stoppage in play midway through the second period of Game 4 while Walker was tied up in a scrum with Warren Foegele.
Greig approached the two and appeared to throw an uppercut that caught Walker up high and dropped him down to the ice.
The fourth-year skater was not assessed a penalty on the play, though Canes forward Nic Deslauriers and Sens captain Brady Tkachuk were both sent to the box during the scrum.
Carolina would go onto win 4-2 to sweep the series and move on to the second round, handing Ottawa a first-round exit for the second time in as many years.
Greig had previously been suspended for two games in September 2021 for a cross-check on then-Winnipeg Jets forward Pierre-Luc Dubois during a preseason contest.
