
Hulu’s reboot of The X-Files from Ryan Coogler has cast eight in guest roles, including recent Weapons best supporting actress Oscar winner Amy Madigan, Steve Buscemi, Ben Foster, Devery Jacobs, Lochlyn Munro, Tantoo Cardinal, Joel D. Montgrad and Sofia Grace Clifton.
The group joins previously cast leads Himesh Patel and Danielle Deadwyler, who play two highly decorated but vastly different FBI agents. They form an unlikely bond when they are assigned to a long-shuttered division devoted to cases involving unexplained phenomena.
Coogler, who just won an original screenplay Oscar for Sinners, is writing and directing the pilot and serves as EP on the Onyx Collective Studio and 20th Television production. X-Files creator Chris Carter is an EP on the reboot. Jennifer Yale is the showrunner and EP, while Sev Ohanian and Zinzi Coogler are EPing under the Cooglers’ Proximity Media banner. The company’s Simone Harris is a co-executive producer. Proximity Media’s director of development Dezi Gallegos will also help to oversee the pilot. Deadwyler and Patel are Co-EPs.
Madigan starred as Aunt Gladys in Zach Cregger’s hit horror film last summer, Weapons, which grossed $270M worldwide. Madigan received her first Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress for the film, Twice in a Lifetime. Her feature credits include American Woman, Antlers, Pollock, Gone Baby Gone, Field of Dreams, Uncle Buck, Places in the Heart and Streets of Fire. She can be seen next in James Ponsoldt’s Apple film Sponsor with Jason Segel and John C. Reilly. In TV, she received a Golden Globe Award and an Emmy nomination for her performance in the telefilm Roe vs. Wade. Additional TV credits include J.J. Abrams’ Fringe, Grey’s Anatomy, HBO’s The Laramie Project, Carnivale and Showtime’s Penny Dreadful: City of Angels. She just completed shooting the Amblin/Netflix limited series All the Sinners Bleed based on S.A. Crosby’s bestselling novel. Madigan is repped by Paradigm Talent Agency and Anonymous Content
Buscemi won an Emmy in Short Form Variety Series for Park Bench With Steve Buscemi. He starred on HBO’s Boardwalk Empire as Atlantic City kingpin Nucky Thompson, and he recently starred in season 2 of Netflix’s Wednesday. Next up, he’ll star opposite John Malkovich and Sam Rockwell in Martin McDonagah’s feature film, Wild Horses Nine for Searchlight this fall. He is repped by UTA and Gotham Group.
Emmy nominee Foster recently starred opposite Sydney Sweeney in Black Bear’s boxing movie about Christy Martin, Christy. He’ll next be seen in IFC’s Motor City, opposite Alan Ritchson and Shailene Woodley which premiered at the Venice Film Festival. His feature credits include Hell or High Water, Emancipation, 3:10 to Yuma and Lone Survivor. The actor is repped by Range Media Partners and Toczek Suddleson Law Group.
Jacobs starred on the Emmy-nominated FX comedy series Reservation Dogs which earned her two Critics Choice Award nominations and a Gotham Award nomination. Jacobs also wrote and directed on Reservation Dogs. Other credits include her feature film producorial debut Backspot, the Disney+/Marvel Studios series Echo and What If…?, Amazon MGM’s holiday comedy film Oh. What. Fun., and Netflix’s horror dramedy series The Order. A Sundance Directors Lab fellow, Jacobs recently finished writing her feature film High Steel. Munro is returning to the Paramount/Miramax comedy Scary Movie this summer which hits theaters on June 6. His recent television credits include recurring in the James Gunn series Peacemaker and starring as Hal Cooper aka “The Black Hood” in CW’s Riverdale. Other feature credits include Amazon’s Totally Killer, The Predator and Beachwarmers 2. Munro has also starred in White Chicks, Freddy vs. Jason, A Night at the Roxbury, Dead Man on Campus and Clint Eastwood’s Unforgiven. Munro is repped by Alchemy Entertainment, TalentWorks and Northern Exposure.
Cardinal counts 130 film and TV projects in the course of a 50-year career including Killers of the Flower Moon, Legends of the Fall, Dances with Wolves, Black Robe, Falls Around Her, Wind River, The Grizzlies, Where The Rivers Flow North, Maina, Chasing Shakespeare and Eden. TV series work includes playing Sue Lynn Blackbird in ABC’s Stumptown, 3 Pines on Amazon (produced by the same producers of The Crown), the Marvel series, Echo, and she just wrapped the final season of Avatar: The Last Airbender. Montgrand starred on HBO’s True Detective: Night Country, had a recurring role on CTV’s sitcom Acting Good, a lead performance in Sweet Summer Pow Wow for CraveTV, and a supporting role in the psychological thriller #VanLife. He also played Hakoda in Netflix’s live-action adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender, and is also recognized for his turn as Kania’tariio in the award-winning feature film Beans. Montgrand is represented by Esther Cohen at The Characters Talent Agency; and Circle Management.
Clifton recently appeared in the ten-part documentary series People of the West as well as recurring in The Muppets Mayhem for Disney+ and voicing the role of Olivia in Thready Bear. Clifton is repped by Zuri Agency and Link Entertainment.
