TORONTO — Boston starter Ranger Suarez was brilliant over eight shutout innings to help the Red Sox extend their winning streak to three games with a 5-0 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays on Monday night.

Suarez (2-2) didn’t allow a hit until Jesus Sanchez led off the sixth inning with a double down the left-field line.

The hit brought some life to the sellout crowd of 41,785, but Suarez retired the next three batters in order. He issued one walk and had 10 strikeouts.

The Blue Jays (12-16) have dropped three of their last eight games.

The teams breezed through the first three innings before Boston (12-17) got to Toronto starter Dylan Cease (1-1) in the fourth.

Marcelo Mayer’s RBI single plated Willson Contreras to open the scoring. Boston tacked on two more runs in the fifth and added another in the sixth to chase Cease.

The right-hander allowed seven hits, four earned runs and three walks. He had five strikeouts.

Carlos Narvaez tacked on an insurance run in the eighth inning with a solo shot off Toronto reliever Chase Lee.

Boston reliever Greg Weissert gave up a pinch-hit double to Daulton Varsho in the ninth inning. Ernie Clement followed with a flyout to end the game in two hours 30 minutes.

TAKEAWAYS

Blue Jays: Reinforcements are coming for the injury-riddled lineup. Right-hander Trey Yesavage (shoulder) was scheduled to make his season debut on Tuesday night and designated hitter George Springer (toe) could be activated over the coming days.

Red Sox: There were still some moving parts after manager Alex Cora and five coaches were fired Saturday. Jose David Flores was named interim bench coach Monday under interim skipper Chad Tracy. Jack Simonetty was named interim hitting assistant and Pablo Cabrera was named interim first base coach/outfield instructor.

KEY MOMENT

Blue Jays left-fielder Davis Schneider likely saved a run in the sixth inning by making a diving catch near the warning track.

KEY STAT

Clement’s 10-game hit streak ended with an 0-for-4 performance.

COMING UP

Yesavage was scheduled to start Tuesday against Boston left-hander Payton Tolle (0-0, 1.50 ERA).
