The Edmonton Oilers are adding a forward.
Western Michigan's Owen Michaels signed a one-year entry-level contract, the team announced Thursday.
The contract kicks in this season.
Michaels, 23, spent three years with the Broncos, registering 33 goals and 33 assists over 119 games.
The six-foot-two, 193-pounder captained Western Michigan to its first national title last season and was named Most Outstanding Player in the Frozen Four thanks to four goals over two games.
Michaels, of Northville, Mich., is up for the Hobey Baker Award as top NCAA men's hockey player this season.
The Oilers sat second in the Pacific Division and looked to build on a four-game winning streak when they hosted the Chicago Blackhawks on Thursday night (Sportsnet, Sportsnet+, 9 p.m. ET / 6 p.m. PT).
