Toronto Maple Leafs defenceman Chris Tanev skated for a third straight day Thursday, but it remains unclear whether he will get back in the team's lineup this season.
"I think it's still early to talk about, whether he's joining us here," head coach Craig Berube said. "But he seems pretty good. And so again, it's still going to probably be a day or two until we figure out exactly if he's going to join us with the team. Maybe, you know, we'll see if we'll talk to him and see if we can get there by the weekend, but I'm not sure yet."
Tanev has been out since suffering a groin injury on Dec. 28 and was weighing undergoing surgery in January to address the issue. He has been limited to just 11 games this season due to various injuries, posting two assists.
A native of Toronto, Tanev is in his 16th NHL season and second with the Leafs, having signed a six-year, $27.5 million deal with the team in the summer of 2024. He carries a cap hit of $4.5 million.
Tanev has appeared in 878 career games with the Leafs, Dallas Stars, Calgary Flames and Vancouver Canucks.
