The Toronto Maple Leafs will be without centre Scott Laughton to start the season after ruling him week-to-week with a lower-body injury on Friday.
"It's a tough loss for him and us," Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube said. "It's a bad break. He's had a real good camp. Yeah, it's tough for everybody."
Laughton was acquired along with two picks from the Philadelphia Flyers ahead of the trade deadline last season in exchange for prospect Nikita Grebenkin and a 2027 first-round pick.
The 31-year-old had two goals and four points in 20 games with the Maple Leafs after the trade and posted 11 goals and 27 points in 60 games with the Flyers previously. He had two assists in 13 playoff games with the Maple Leafs.
Laughton is a pending unrestricted free agent and counts for $1.5 million against the Toronto's cap, with the Flyers retaining half of his $3 million AAV in last season's trade.
The Oakville, Ont. native has 108 goals and 269 points in 681 career games with the Flyers and Maple Leafs.
He was selected 20th overall in the 2012 draft.
The Maple Leafs will open their season on Wednesday against the Montreal Canadiens.
