The Vancouver Canucks have placed forward Jake Virtanen on leave as they investigate allegations of sexual misconduct, the team announced Saturday.
The team says it has engaged "external expertise" to assist in an independent probe.
"Our organization does not accept sexual misconduct of any kind and the claims as reported are being treated very seriously by us," said a statement from the team.
Virtanen, 24, is in his sixth season in Vancouver after being selected by the Canucks with the sixth pick in the 2014 NHL Draft.
He has five points in 38 games this season.
The Canucks are slated to face the Maple Leafs in Toronto on Saturday night.
