Vasili Demchenko agreed to terms on a one-year, entry-level contract with the Montreal Canadiens on Tuesday.
The contract is worth $700,000 at the NHL level and $70,000 at the American Hockey League level (Laval), and includes a signing bonus of $92,500.
A native of Chelyabinsk, Russia, the 26-year-old goaltender spent the past seven seasons playing in the Kontinental Hockey League. This past season, Demchenko played 36 games for Chelyabinsk Traktor and Magnitogorsk Metallurg, going 9-17-3 with a 2.77 goals-against average and .907 save percentage.
In each of the previous three seasons for Chelyabinsk, Demchenko had a save percentage of at least .931, including a career-high .933 in 2016-17.
In 212 regular-season KHL games, Demchenko was 81-86-25 with a 2.37 GAA, a .925 save percentage and 14 shutouts. He was 3-6 with a 2.67 GAA and .923 save percentage in 11 playoff games.
