{allcanada} Canucks defenceman Alex Edler out ‘weeks’ with knee injury

The Vancouver Canucks will be without defenceman Alex Edler for "weeks" according to head coach Travis Green.

Edler suffered a knee injury against the Vegas Golden Knights on Oct. 24 and was scheduled to undergo an MRI on it, according to the Vancouver Province. Edler missed 12 games with a knee injury last season, although Green wasn't sure if this new injury was on the same knee.

The 32-year-old, who has played his entire career with the Canucks, has no goals and five assists in 10 games this season.

Edler is in the final season of a six-year, $30 million contract and is set to become an unrestricted free agent this summer. With his future as a Canuck unknown, Edler's name had recently appeared in some trade rumours, but those will likely quiet down until he can return to full health.

The 13-year veteran isn't the only Canucks defenceman currently out with an injury. Chris Tanev suffered a hip injury in the same game Edler was hurt in, and has been ruled out for Saturday's matchup against the Penguins.
