I don't normally make comments with regards to 'upmixes', mainly because they always sound false due to the inability for them to follow the natural methods of surround mixing.
What's the "natural" method of surround mixing ??? For me , and I thought that was pretty obvious from some of my remarks, it's not discrete channels, but more an Ambisonics like sound !
There's one issue that i believe i've never seen spoken about when 'upmixing' is discussed, and the fact the last short sentence below makes direct mention of the way we hear, i can only gather that it plays no part in your method.Phase is an essential part of how we hear, so it doesn't matter that the RMS and Peak values are the same, if their phase is not the same, then it can't be guaranteed that the sounds will sound equal in all situations.
