In actual fact a 24/96 copy of a DSD recording should (if done correctly) be mathematically indistinguishable from the original. The fact is that there is NO scientific basis for claims that DSD is better than high bitrate PCM.
Where DSD is significantly different, is in the end result. Eg, the way that digital is converted to analogue - and that is largely because of the FORMAT, not the CONTENT.
When you realize that you can turn electrical DSD electrical stream directly into sound vibrations and actually hear the sound being played back - without any electronics or electrical processing.... when one witness that, one starts understanding just how different DSD is. (Well it sounds really bad, but you can clearly hear the melody, drums, recognise human voice....)
Fact of the day - making technically accurate DSD DAC is many times simpler and results in many times shorter signal path, less components and less processing - then making a technically comparable PCM DAC. And even more so on the A/D side, even the simplest DSD A/D will technically beat all but the most complex and expensive PCM DAC on the planet.
(Because of which, many KORG DSD devices internally first convert all PCM to DSD, and then perform DA using DSD as input. Es example)
