{allcanada} Hellebuyck agrees to six-year contract with Jets

Connor Hellebuyck agreed to terms on a six-year, $37 million contract with the Winnipeg Jets on Thursday.

The contract has an average annual value of $6.167 million, and allows the 25-year-old goaltender and the Jets to avoid an arbitration hearing.

Hellebuyck was 44-11-9 with a 2.36 goals-against average, .924 save percentage and six shutouts in 67 games (64 starts) last season. He was 9-8 with a 2.36 GAA, .922 save percentage and two shutouts in 17 games during the Stanley Cup Playoffs to help the Jets reach the Western Conference Final.

The 44 regular-season wins tied Andrei Vasilevskiy of the Tampa Bay Lightning for first in the League and were the most by a United States-born goalie in a single season, passing Tom Barrasso, who had 43 with the Pittsburgh Penguins in 1992-93. Hellebuyck also tied the NHL record for home wins in a season with 30 (Wayne Stephenson, Philadelphia Flyers, 1975-76).

He finished second in voting for the Vezina Trophy, behind Pekka Rinne of the Nashville Predators.

Winnipeg selected Hellebuyck in the fifth round (No. 130) of the 2012 NHL Draft. He is 83-41-14 with a 2.55 GAA, .917 save percentage and 12 shutouts in 149 NHL games (143 starts).
