{allcanada} Report: Jets’ Trouba out for extended period of time with ankle injury

The Winnipeg Jets could be without top defenceman Jacob Trouba for a significant amount of time, according to a report from Ken Wiebe of the Winnipeg Sun.

Wiebe writes that the ankle injury occurred during the overtime period of Thursday's 4-3 shootout loss to the San Jose Sharks. It's unclear for now how long Trouba will be out, with Wiebe, citing a source, only saying he will miss "an extended period of time."

The Jets are already without centre Mark Scheiffle, who hasn't played since suffering a shoulder injury on Dec. 27.

Trouba, 23, has had a breakout season with the Jets this year, playing significant time in a shutdown role alongside Josh Morrissey.

Trouba is second on the team in ice time behind Dustin Byfuglien with 22:09 per game. He has three goals and 20 points this season with a plus-six rating.

The Jets as a team are in the middle of their best season since the team relocated from Atlanta in 2011. With a 29-13-8 record, the Jets lead the Central Division and their 66 points are second only to the Vegas Golden Knights in the entire Western Conference.
