Rookie forward Brock Boeser will be a healthy scratch in the Vancouver Canucks' season opener against the Edmonton Oilers on Saturday.
Jake Virtanen, the team's first-round pick in 2014, will play.
Boeser had a strong pre-season and had many fans anticipating a big year for the 20-year-old.
He had four goals and one assist in a nine-game stint with Vancouver at the end of last season.
Virtanen also impressed in exhibition play, and is looking to take a step forward after scoring just nine goals and 19 points in 65 AHL games last season.
