Season series: The Nashville Predators and Winnipeg Jets each have won twice. Predators forward Craig Smith had a goal and two assists in the first period of a 7-0 win at Bridgestone Arena on Nov. 7. Jets forward Drew Stafford scored twice in a 4-1 win at Nashville on Jan. 7. Blake Wheeler scored 51 seconds into overtime in 5-4 home victory for Winnipeg on Jan. 14, and Nashville center Ryan Johansen had a goal and an assist in a 4-1 win at MTS Centre on Jan. 21.
Predators team scope: Nashville has a franchise-record 12-game point streak (8-0-4) and continues a five-game road trip continues. They hold the first wild card into the Stanley Cup Playoffs from the Western Conference. Center Paul Gaustad (upper body) will not play, according to The Tennessean; forward Colton Sissons was recalled from Milwaukee of the American Hockey League. Forward Filip Forsberg has 14 goals and seven assists in his past 14 games. Linemate Mike Ribeiro has a four-game point-streak (one goal, six assists). Smith has three goals in his past four games. Coach Peter Laviolette has not confirmed a starting goaltender.
Jets team scope: Winnipeg concludes a five-game homestand having lost seven of its past eight games at MTS Centre and has three wins in its past 15 home games (3-11-1). With defenseman Jacob Trouba healthy, defenseman Josh Morrissey was reassigned to Manitoba of the AHL. Coach Paul Maurice has not confirmed whether Michael Hutchinson or Ondrej Pavelec will start. Center Mark Scheifele, who was named the NHL's Second Star of the Week, has six goals in his past three games. The Jets have lost a lot of offense in recent weeks after trading captain Andrew Ladd, and forward Blake Wheeler and Nikolaj Ehlers sustaining injuries. "We've had 47 goals go out of our lineup the last two weeks, so the games are going to look like this," coach Paul Maurice said after a 2-1 loss against the Edmonton Oilers on Sunday.
